Two words for the 4.8is... stay away. The Cayenne's quirks don't appear to be as annoying as the X5's... My 2c

That's kind of what I expected. I was a Porsche dealership mechanic for a while, so I'm quite comfortable with the Cayenne's issues. But if I could score a 4.8is for under $15k it would be worth it

As my dear departed aunt used to say about living abroad: "It's not better or worse, it's just different". In other words, both have their pros and cons. I have a 4.6is that will turn over 200k miles next month. It does not burn a drop of oil between 10k mile oil changes and is still on the original transmission, too. It has been an extremely reliable and versatile vehicle, including the occasional long distance 6000lb towing excursion. Although a bit more powerful, the 4.8 is believed to be less reliable than the 4.6, so I would look for a 4.6 if you like the X5. Excellent examples can be had all day long for less than $15k. My 4.6 is (half-heartedly) for sale for $9995.

IMHO:

x5 3.0 < Cayenne V6 < X5 4.4 < CS = X5 4.6/4.8is < CTT < CTTS

Please see me after class.
Clearly you've been sleeping. It is a well established forum FACT that the Cayenne V6 is the most fleet of foot.

I agree...the 4.6is is more reliable from not having the 6HP26, suspension from the land rover, and possibly the N62 motor.

I hope Riley gets that '13 diesel, which will relieve him of his promise to stop posting here once his V6 has made him some profit.

Please add my 50i to the formula.

x5 3.0 < Cayenne V6 = X5 50i < X5 4.4 < CS = X5 4.6/4.8is < X5 50i< CTT < CTTS

I agree that the E53 has very good reliability record and resale as well. My friend got approx. 350000 miles out of that 3.0 and received a check ih the amount of 12000 when his employee, who made an illegal left turn, totaled the car. Perhaps, he would have a different mathematical sentence.

I was offered 17K for 2006 v6 with 75K miles on the clock with 10 months of CPO left @ Carmax. Decided to keep it. Truck is in mint condition.

Wow, either Carmax doesn't know what a X5 4.8is is or I was being offered a reaming w/o KY with their $13k offer for my X5 4.8is, 05 with 85k with warranty.

The X5 50i is in your formula twice.

Thanks. None of those are good comparables for my X5. It's a pre-07 4.8is/4.8L. Few sold. If I had to pick, I'd say the $15,500 05 4.4L with 80,847mi is close plus some "value" for being 4.8is/4.8L.

Thanks, good list, however.
