What about the 1st gen? Those things are a PIA to get back in there if you ever have to take one out.
Did the design of the locking mechanism change much, if at all, from gen 1 to 2?

Yup, this latest TSB came out of nowhere...it's not like there were any previous issues with headlight mounting brackets and connectors.

Perhaps the headlights are sympathetic to the previous self ejecting stainless steel trim and rear window microswitch.
This is truly embarrassing and pathetic.
Of course, now you sit back and wait for the Panamera (spawn of P!g) and the new 991 to have similar recalls.
Forced design reuse ... thanks Dr W.

Called my dealer today and asked about the recall. The Service Manager, a good friend had not heard about it through Porsche channels yet. I gave him the Porsche recall number and he affirmed that an "A" at the beginning indicated a safety recal and not a service notice. He told me he would research it and get back to me.
I then called the "800" number listed on the recall and got a Porsche Customer Care specialist. First they said the recall ( even though she did not know about the recall was VIN specific but could not locate either the recall or any information about it. She took my VIN and my name and said she would get back to me. Actually she did call back and leave a message that was no more informative than out telephone call and gave no specific information.
The recall states all Cayennes built between March 2010 and January 21011 are affected. Mine was built in Feb 2011
Very interesting that the recall would commence on 23 Feb and yet no one in the Porsche chain that I can speak to knows anything.
Now my guess is that this may be a lawyer inspired over reaction as the Cayenne is throughly tested off road ( rather harsh test bed) and thus a problem like this should emerge long before production. Probably a very small sample size that is allowing lawyers and the government to overreact. We shall see but I'm not very concerned at tis point. My Cayenne S, a great vehicle in all respects, I have put 15,000 miles on her in 11 months and she runs and handles great.

So while the article states that vehicles built between March 8, 2010 and January 31, 2012 are affected, your info is that in reality it's only cars built through January 2011? Cool. Like you f4, my car was built in Feb 2011, and also like you I couldn't be happier with it. Makes one feel like thumbin' one's nose at a certain cynical, identity-conflicted moderator type.....
