Looking to buy Cayenne. Need advice on suspension
Hello:
I am located in the middle east and have been looking at some Cayennes and would like to know if someone could explain what suspension systems there are for each model.
I have had bad experiences with air suspensions on Mercedes Benz S-class and would like to avoid this again.
Do all Cayennes have air suspension, any differences between V6, S, and Turbo models? Do they change from year to year? I am looking mostly at 2005-2007 models.
Is the a "coil" conversion kit?
What fails, the "air shocks", compressor, everything?
Again, thank you.

we can add that gts have also air suspension native.
after driving extensively both, i choose a cs with air suspension, and 83'000 miles later, i would say that if i can only choose for one option, this is with no doubt and no hesitation the option i will select. a must in my opinion.

It's nice having air suspension and PASM, especially if you have larger diameter wheels.

Compressor can fail, ask me how I know. But the Air suspension is really nice to have.
The "air bags" are pretty solid, unlike on Audi's
I have had Cayenne loaners without Air suspension and you can really tell the difference.

I think the best way to decide between air suspension and regular suspension is to drive both, and see whether it makes a difference to you. A lot of people here will tell you panoramic sunroof is a must have, but ultimately it depends on your personal needs.
I decided on regular suspension because I want long term reliability. I ride on standard 18" wheels and regular suspension serves me perfectly fine.

In the US yes but in other countries, steel = standard; air = option.
On the models you are looking at you will not get PASM with coil springs. I don't know which part of the middle east you are in, but here in Dubai there is a huge choice of Cayennes in both air and steel configurations.

gts with no air outside the us :
thanks for the info mcbit, i did not know that.
For me the pano roof is simply not usable: open it makes the interior feeling like being into a hurricane above 25mph, ..saying that while our 996 c4 cab is open more than 95% of the time!

I don't have the pano roof, but have similar unit in my Audi A-3. Would not recommend it. More rattles and in the summer more heat.

Depends on how you like to drive... IMO PASM is a must have, then PTV+, next air suspension (unless you tow then it is a must have), finally pdcc. Get them all if it is in your budget.

The OP is looking at 2005-2007 (2006); so no PASM without air, no PTV and no PDCC.
I don't where in the ME he is but in Dubai there would be probably about 20-30 available at any one time in the age range he's looking at and a good mixture of steel and air. My personal preference is for air as I like the comfort adjustments which can be made.

Air Suspension Option
How can you tell from photos of the interior if a Cayenne has the air suspension option?
Is there a second 'wheel' on the center console (similar to the drive selection wheel)? I would assume there is an additional ride height (or firmness) ****/wheel/switch, or?
