Default Off Road Settings - Rear Differential

I haven't taken my 2012 Cayenne off road yet but I was playing around with the offroad settings and I noticed that I cannot get the 'Lock Rear Differential' light to light up. I can switch to the first setting (Off Road) and second setting (Center Differential Locked) but the third click (Rear Differential) does not result in anything. I get no notification on the MFD like with the other off road settings and no light on the dial itself. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a faulty Cayenne?

Did you order a locking rear diff?

Put tranny in Neutral first or do you have to be moving (slowly) for it to lock?

Don't have locking (rear) diff so just guessing.

What's the manual say for this? Hopefully it's not under the section "Towing"....

From the Manual

Selecting driving program
The required driving program can be set using the
rocker switch.
The rocker switch is located in the center console
of the vehicle. It features a multi-step function and
can be operated in both directions.
Information
– The number of differential locks that can be
engaged in the off-road driving program
depends on your vehicle equipment.
Prerequisites for manual settings
The off-road driving program can only be
engaged at a speed of less than 20 mph
(30 km/h).
If you are driving too fast, the message “Speed
too high” will appear on the instrument panel:
Please see the chapter “OVERVIEW OF
WARNING MESSAGES” on page 139. f The on-road driving program can be engaged
at any time.

The rear Diff lock is an option that needs to be ordered when the Cayenne was built. Do you have the window sticker or VIN number? I can look up the specs for you based on the vin. My guess is you do not have it as 99% of Cayenne's do not have a rear diff lock.

Isn't PTV the locking rear differential option on the 2011+?

Hmm, that may be right that you need PTV for the rear differential (I never saw an option for it as a stand-alone). The odd thing is that they left the 3rd LED there so it makes it look like you can enable it.

Checked mine today. I have PTV. The third light lit up and the message in the instrument panel indicated the rear differential was locked.

yeah, as everyone says, only with PTV...

using what is standard on not PTV vehicles i have done fine off road, i think in sand i only used the one light.... it's really nice how it modulates the gas so you dont get torquey and dig into the sand... also holds the rev's perfectly to move forward rather than dig in.... i was very timid at first but after a few minutes everything was smooth sailing... the only downside was the clearance i had (no air suspension)... with a 2-3" lift with air suspension... much smoother sailing.
