Well, got the call from the Dealer here in Edmonton .... they replaced the Amp only ...... at a total cost of $2100 !! Called our local aftermarket stereo guys and they told me they could do a complete stereo , amp and speakers with top of the line audio for $3000 ...... I just cant believe that that crappy little factory amp is worth 2100 ??????? what gives ???

you are being royally screwed. I would suggest looking for the part and doing it yourself. its a PIA to get the trim off but ...

Screwed isnt the word I was thinking of....and to think the owners of the Dealership are clients of mine. Wait until they see my invoice to them for their equipment they bought.

Wait a minute...since when did the amplifier 'blow'? I thought it was just a 'no audio condition'.
When it 'blew', did it take the fuse with it? Do you have the old 'blown' amplifier? Does it have that 'blown electronics smell to it? How do you know it's blown up?
I happen to know a little bit about this mysterious black box (which could have either black or silver side panels ... long story), but it is fairly difficult to 'blow one up' in a P!g. There is DC input protection, assuming of course the load dump pulse on the B+ line is within Porsche specifications...but if it wasn't, I would have expected other problems.
There are 2 electrical harnesses running to the amplifier.
One is the main harness (the big connector). This is 12V, 12V return (aka Ground), and speaker outputs.
The other (smaller) is the line level inputs (microphone and the CCP wakeup line ...no don't ask).
A cracked plastic optical fiber (or a defective optical fiber termination) would in theory explain why the amplifier "doesn't turn on", but it would not explain "blown up". The amplifier should wake up on MOST light (or electrical wakeup)

The PCM is a known failure point on the 955/957. You might just need a new one. But I would look at an aftermarket (or PCCM+) option first.
