Default Help! My dealer messed up my order - no XM NavTraffic

After waiting 4+ months since placing my order my dealer called me to say my car was ready for pick up. When I checked the build it was missing one key feature - XM Radio. Now I can live without the stations but I REALLY wanted integrated Navigation and Traffic. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do it after market? Is it even possible? The only thing I can come up with buying a second portable navigation unit but it seems stupid to have 2 in the vehicle. Should I just ask them to re-order and wait ANOTHER 90-120 days?

Needless to say, very frustrating.

The cant add it after the fact? XM is usually just a module that plugs in.

I believe that it can not be done in the +'09 cars with the newer PCM.

That is what I thought...so I guess my question for anyone that has this feature is how valuable is it? I can either wait 4 months for a new build or just suck it up without it. I have XM radio today and enjoy it on long road trips. I have real time traffic in my wife's X5 and it has re-routed us a few times saving us from a traffic jam.

What would you do?

I'd wait for it. This feature saved me (rerouting) in the wilderness that is Jersey countryside as recently as last Wednesday.

Ask them to swap out the whole PCM unit with a unit from a demo vehicle they use for test drives they may have in stock (if any). Alternatively, can't they order the PCM alone with XM and swap it for yours when it comes in. That must take less time than a new vehicle and you would have the use of your truck until it comes.

If that can't be done I'd re-order it ...It's just time and patience is a virtue.

Thanks for the advice, I'll ask about swapping out the entire PCM tomorrow. Glad to hear you all think it is worth it. That was the way I was leaning but was wondering if I was just being too picky...XM it is.

Live traffic on sat radio is now on my must have options for new cars. Huge time saver even on your normal routes. I'm in SF. If I need to pick something by Candlestick Park, I enter in my nav and it takes me on or off the freeway depending on traffic. Think your route home is the best way home? Not always. In our minivan, I let the sat radio service expire but kept the nav traffic, only $2.50 or so a month. Still too many of the worst commercials on some sat radio stations.

If you don't have live traffic nav, but have an iphone, the default map app is pretty good too. If we're heading into dinner in the city on a Friday or Saturday night, I'll take a quick peak to see if I should cut through Sausalito or not.

If you enjoy commercial-free radio, satellite radio is the way to go.

As Andy states above, I think the sat radio is a must have on long trips. Plus the nav is great in the city.

Sat radio is great. Nav is great.

XM Nav traffic is da bomb. Works like a charm in the NE corridor... NY-> Boston.
