CS highway mpg

On my recent 400 mile road trip I averaged 23.8 highway, often cruising at speeds in the 75-80mph range, AC on, with only around 1K miles on the clock. I didn't use CC because I wanted to keep varying speed while still in the break-in period. Once the car is broken in I can see how 25mpg or better would be pretty easy to achieve, maybe significantly better if I used cruise and drove just a little slower.

My 04 S got 19 on the dot on the drive from Austin to Denver with lots of cruise control and a trip average speed of 64 MPH. Man, those small towns in northwest texas slow down your average.
In daily driving, I'm a combined 15MPH.
That is a big jump in efficiency, the new models getting about 100 miles more per tankful!
But I would need a lot of tankfuls to make up for the difference in purchase price of $18k vs $80k.

The mpg on new Cayennes is impressive. I can get a little over 25 mpg freeway on my 6000 lb turbo diesel Touareg and around 18 mpg in town. But the numbers you guys are reporting for V8 gassers is awesome. Makes me wonder why anybody would opt for the V6.
