I'd like to take a look at Wahiba

Spent a lot of time in the desert in Dubai in the 90s work and pleasure about 50k km. This time, first time in a Cayenne and first time in an automatic, an experience i'm sure I'll get over My biggest concern was the 45 profile tyres which I thought I might roll off the rims if I reduced the pressure too much. Started out 25 psi and thought I'd see what the 'trick' electronics would cope? Need to get back to the basics, I had to reduce to 15 psi to stay on top of the sand. Not much problem on fresh sand but bringing up the rear of 4 cars has its own problems............

insane stuff there, i guess with multiple cars its easier to justify, i was by myself and tried everything i could to stay safe and out of the deep stuff.

First time we went out to the Wahiba in the CS we all forgot to turn the PSM off. Interesting sound the brakes make whilst trying to climb dunes at speed
Jeep driver was ok, head full of sand was all, but he was reasonably experienced dune basher and still forgot to check the slope before he went up & over.

Shame the heat is upon us now, will have to wait till September before going out again.

I used to do this all the time alone for work; didn't have an option. It's a lot easier with no cars in front of you!

The use of the ABS to simulate a diff-lock still works with the PSM off it just doesn't rip the throttle away from you when you need it the most.

Yep, it suddenly got hot 46C here last week, I won't be going back before Ramadan!



This is the indestructible and unsinkable Land Cruiser FZJ73 I had from 1991 to 2001 (Taken in 2000). It was the most reliable car I have ever had. In 360,000+ km, apart from normal servicing, I had to replace 3 AC belt idler pulleys (the result of frequent immersion in flooded wadis), 3 exhaust systems and 5 batteries. Replaced the valve guide seals at 340k too, but all in all nothing to give concern. It would go anywhere and I loved it to bits.
