CHIRP SOUND UPDATE
I posted this on March 9th
2004 CS with 55K mi makes a chirping sound from the front end.
Chirp is in sync with wheel rotation
Not heard over 10MPH
Only noticeable during the first 10mi of driving
Not noticeable in reverse
The chirp changed to a scrape sound in sync with the drive shaft rotation.
You guessed right if you diagnosed this as a drive shaft (cardon) fault.
Ordered one from Vertex and had it installed by the local Goodyear store. Their service documents indicated that an alignment tool was required. Based on the posts here I contacted Vertex who assured them that none was required.
Took 2 hours to replace but they discounted 1/2 hour based on the posts here.
The scrape sound is gone, the CS runs like it should.
