Default Are those 21" wheels that fragile??

I ordered a Cayenne S with 21" 911 Turbo II wheels, but I found some people say that 21" can only run on those "nice roads", you'll have to drive with it very carefully and it has zero off-road capability. Is that true?

Hope that is not the case, as I am ordering mine tomorrow with the same wheels. I really don't plan to do any serious off road driving, and if we happen to sell our LR3 and use it for the snow I plan to get a set of winter wheels and tires. Any time you have very low profile tires you run the risk of tire and or wheel damage when hitting pot holes at moderate to high speeds. I am interested in hearing feedback on this subject also.

I ran one summer with my 21's on harsh Montreal roads and no damage was done to the rims however, the same cannot always be said for the fragile low profile tires.

this is the 3rd winter for my gts on 21's and pirelli scorpion snow tires.
I haven't damaged the wheels or tires, but I do avoid pot holes and steer away from curbs.
the only 'off road' use has been on park and forest service maintained gravel roads covered by ice and snow.
if you have found people that actually had 21" wheels and damaged the wheels driving where you live, that would seem to be your best source of information on the subject.

I just blew out two of my 18" wheels with winter tires mounted on a pot hole on the NJ turnpike - so in fact, if the pot hole is big enough, the wheels size doesn't seem to matter. The problem with the 21" wheels is that they don't offer much protection for the low profile tires but I like the look and will keep them for my summer tires. Watch-out for curbs! I drive on hard sand on the beach and the 21" tires are fine but for serious off-roading, get some dedicated off-road wheels and tires.
