Default Think the CD-based nav system in early Cayennes sucks?

I thought so too, until we bought a 2001 Audi Allroad Quattro for my 16 year-old son's first car. It is equipped with OEM navigation, and woof... it's really bad. It doesn't have a map screen at all... guidance instructions are only available in the small LCD screen in the instrument cluster. It takes badness to a whole new level. It makes my 2004 Cayenne's nav system feel modern and new. Hard to believe...

Spoiled that's what we are...

Well, to be fair. That is the lowest of 3 nav options offered for that generation of Audis.

Here is the same vintage of nav installed in my 2000 Audi S4.

DVD drive, video in motion, sd cards, bluetooth, TV tuner, satellite radio. You can retrofit these into the Allroad pretty easy. I actually have an extra harness I would sell cheap.

(of course with an Allroad you need A full stage 3 kit to get that thing over 500hp too)

You should see the one in my 02 Jaguar -- tiny ----- although she talks to you in a wonderful voice.

I never use it.

Seeing as how this is my son's car... I won't be putting any cash into it to upgrade the nav system. He's lucky to have one at all.

Cayenne S and Turbo brakes are nearly a direct bolt on to that car.

Do any of you remember the early nav traffic pro radios in the early 996's?

Yep. Might do a search on Audiworld.com or Audizine.com.

I have helped a couple of friends do the swap. Makes an Allroad or S4 STOP!!!

( I opted for the smaller stoptechs on my S4, but considered Cayenne brakes)

Andy -- I forgot about my 996tt. Never use that one either.

I feel so old and "out of date"

I know that a green station wagon isn't every 16 year old's dream, but I've never owned a car with a heated steering wheel before (our Cayenne has the wood package, so no heated wheel). It's not a bad first car!
