Default Good night! Help me find some wheels, please?

I've owned four 80s Mustangs. One nice thing about 80s Mustangs: I could walk into any junkyard in the country and walk out with a set of wheels in about fifteen minutes, and I could walk into any half-assed service station and get some tires in an hour.

Modern wheel and tire fitment is kicking my ***...

I have the stock 17s on my '05 Cayenne. I would like to go up for summer, but I don't want to sell a kidney to do so. Wheel manufacturers have apparently decided that people who want 17" and 18" wheels are decent, working folks; and that people who want 19" and up are scum with more money than brains. I refuse to believe that the difference in metal or manufacturing techniques justifies the difference in cost between 18" and 19" wheels. It's ridiculous!

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what wheels will fit the Cayenne. I know that wheels for the Touareg and Q7 will fit; but there are other Porsches with similar wheel specifications that some websites seem to indicate will fit, I just can't be sure. I've searched the forums in what I think is a thorough fashion and didn't find anything helpful.

For instance: A guy very near me has a set of 18" Victor's with good tires from a Boxster. From what I can find on the net, the wheel specifications for the Boxster and Cayenne are very similar (lug pattern, hub size, offset). Will these fit? If not, what will and where should I be looking?

Any guidance or advice appreciated!

Shawn, I have 18" OEM wheels from my '05 CS that were used for about 2 years (that probably means I put around 40k miles on them. I can try to look it up) before I switched to 20". Make me a reasonable offer via PM and as long as you'll be able to pick them up from me in NY, they'll be yours if you're interested.

Shawn, if you can get OEMs from the people on here muay bueno!!!

and 5x130 is the size.......then its mix and match......

look to spend 1200 without shipping for 20's on replicas.......and you might get tires...

I would try to get some larger OEMs as winter setup and then look at knock offs as summer tires....

I am stuck with 2 sets of 17 OEMS

If cost is that much of an issue, look on eBay. I've bought several sets of wheels and have always been happy. They aren't BBS quality but they aren't that bad either.

eBay is my friend. I've found some nice looking 20s for around $700, and plenty of OEM 18s for around $450-$500. At this point, I'm actually thinking I'd like 19s, so that I can put 50-series tires, rather than 40s (20") or 60s (18").

Looks like aftermarket 19s will run around $800, and under $700 for the tires. It looks like I can actually buy a set of OEM 19s around $1k, so that's an option. I can get them cheaper if I carefully shop for one wheel at at time...

And, no, I'm not that cheap or that poor; getting the best deal is part of the challenge!

Eventually, you'll find out how those same wheel mfrs are in cahoots with the tire mfrs who also charge ridiculous prices for something with the same overall diameter but with less rubber.

19" is a fairly good size however the selection of tires that are available for the Cayenne within a 19" format is quite limited as compared to that of 18" or 20" diameters.

Frank993 has a good point. Check out Tire Rack's website and compare pricing before pulling the trigger on a new set of wheels. The wheels stay but the tires come every few years.

Okay, rather than starting a new thread, I figured I'd just revive this one...

I'm picking up a set of 18s this weekend for summer and, according to Punxsatawney Phil, they'll be going on in a couple weeks. So, I'm already thinking about winter tires for the 17s that are on the car now. The current tires are the standard 235/65/17, but I'm planning on going to 235/70/17. The BMW tire-ma-rator thingie says my speedo will be off by 3%, but I can live with that.

Has anyone else done this? Anything to report?

thats no biggy on the size, when I locate some decent Off road tires mine will be way off.......you should be fine. Im waiting for my roof rack to arrive here shortly then I plan on painting roof rack, and exhaust tips(if possible) satin black, then I am looking at either buying my 17 offroad tires now or just grabbing some 20 reps off line in prep for summer.

I'm looking forward to seeing your Cayenne done up like a Camel Trophy Defender!
