lately i am hearing a light "knocking" sound inside the car.. i thought it's the air suspension when i'm setting it to low(est), or the seat.. noticed it when the car is idle (neutral).. "tok, tok, tok"..
is it a warning re: cardan shaft? it's intermittent.. sometimes i'd be just sitting there, car running = nothing.. sometimes it just comes up... not even sure if i can replicate this if i take this to the dealership (arrgghh.. $$$$ again!!!)
I had the same issue and was told it was the fuel pump auto safety check or some such thing. I can't recall exactly. Strange that they didn't engineer the sound away as it is annoying at idle.
I have this noise too. It seems to be coming from the dash. Sounds like a clock. Some module for the vent system or something needs to be replaced. They are replacing it along with my "other" issue.
thanks jsr..
i actually have the same comments as that last guy.. heater is not even on..
it's just in idle.. sometimes, 3 "knocks", sometimes more.. and it comes and goes.. not that often.. i tend to pay attention to even the smallest "unusual" noise from this car since i don't have warranty.. if it's the heater then i'll have it checked, but the problem is, if the tech can't replicate the sound, i'll be paying for nothing since they would say there's no problem.. or maybe now they'll say it's the cat bypass pipes (installed yesterday - and haven't heard the "knock" the whole day).

If it coming from the rear of vehicle I agree on fuel pump. Mine does this particularly when its cold and just after start up (first mile of driving). I have had lots of vehicles do this so I personally think nothing of it...to your point, I doubt you could duplicate it for the dealer.
