Question What's up with Porsche factory horns?!

I just replaced a third horn since buying my MY2006 CST! The Porsche tech. said this is a frequent problem (not only on Cayenne models)!

I'll tell you one thing that isn't up with Porsche factory horns... honking!

We're on our third set. My wife actually honked yesterday to help me find her when she picked me up from the airport, and the horns worked! I was shocked!

I've owned Porsches for over 25 years and never had a horn fail. Maybe you're overusing yours.....

I think the way that Cayenne horns are mounted allows them to fill up with water, and they eventually corrode and fail. It's a common failure.

I've not had a problem w/ mine yet but then I can't remember the last time I used them.

I would imagine that EW, living in NYC, keeps a spare set in the car....

That's part of the problem... you won't know (as I found from experience) until you need them
On my second set BTW.

Tomorrow I will be posting my most recent upgrade (yesterday) on 6speed. I chucked the wimpy cayenne horns and went for this:

Yes - that is the crappy Pcar horn on the right.
Yes - that is a self contained airhorn
Yes - it's loud as hell and sounds totally European
Yes - installation was 400 bitches in a bitch boat.

Will post the link here to the 6speed post as soon as I complete it (Just need to get a decent video of the sound).

Hey Roxboxxx,

Did you have to add a relay with that new horn?

Yep, that's a fact. When I took my Low Pitch Horn off it had some water in it.

A common issue resulting from water ingestion; more so with the Turbo & GTS due to the large front grille.
