Default 2008 Porsche Cayenne Brake pad change

Hey guys,

I was wondering the process of changing the brakes on the Cayenne's, and what is required. I have installed full brake kits on other cars in the past as well as brake pad changes. The dealer said my brakes needed to be replaced soon, and want to charge me $900 to do it. I said f*ck that I can do it myself. Is it true when replacing the pads, that every brake pad sensor wire needs to be changed? Also, my buddy told me it requires a special tool. Is this true? If so were can I order the tool from? Do I have to reset any thing in the menu of the car after the swap? I found the brakes, and sensors on advanced for a little over $200 for everything. I did use the search button, and could find anything. Thanks in advanced

Im about to do the same just bought all new stuff including rotors but waiting on a set of Triple Square bits for the rears.
Do a search for "DIY brake job" someone did a pretty good write up on the whole deal.

Must be the season, getting ready to do mine as well.
I have done my 996's brakes (As well as my 911, Audi's...etc etc) I'm sure there is nothing special about 955 brake job. Or am I wrong?

Its really very easy, you do need to replace the sensors at the same time, when you take them off you will see why.

Mine wanted way more than $900.00 w/rotors

Do a search -- you will find a lot of info. The insulation just fell off of my sensors when I tried to remove them from the pads. Sunset's price was less than half the cost of my local dealer on the sensors.

I ordered pads/rotors/sensors /hardware kit/ and the 4 bolts for just over $500.00 -- made for a nice install and nothing to worry about not having.

our front brake pads lasted just 14k miles...

I had my car at the dealership before I bought it, to have them inspect it. They told me the pads would need to be changed soon. But, never said anything about the rotors needing to be replaced. So I am assuming it is safe to say they don't need to be replaced. A stealer-ship would be the first to tell me if so right?

Standard at dealerships is to change rotors every pad change per Porsche instructions. Rarely is that required and you should get 2 pads per rotor, the dealer may refuse to do that however. DIY

Thanks that's good to hear. With all of the cars I have owned, I have never really had to change the rotors on the car. I do plan on doing it myself. I have done a lot more complicated things on a car before but, never high end. Usually imports, i.e. honda, acura etc. I bought the car with 58,000 miles on it. So I am sure the rotors have been replaced recently.

Got new pads and rotos on my 2006 Porsche Cayenne. Darn, it makes a noise whenever I start the car in the morning backing out of the drive way. The noise normally goes away half an hour or so into the day. The brake job was done at NTB. Why does my brake have morning syndrom?

wow: Sunset was about $750 for the parts for my CTT. Have not done it yet. Need to see what they charge to ship the rotors.

Default Brake noise

Has 52,000miles on my 08 Cayenne S, changed out the pads and sensors for the first time but not the rotors and hardware kits. Afterward, noise developed.... it's like snapping sound(from the rear brakes) while stopping in reverse. Immediately going forward and stop in a short distance would hear snapping sound from the front. However, if immediatley going forward for a few blocks or more before stopping would not make any snapping sound from the front. If it doesnt involve backing, the brakes are perfect going forward.

I used the Bosch Quiet Quest on my Cayenne. I applied the Bosch syn. grease between the piston and the back of the pads. Should I have not done it? Also, the hardware kits are quite rusted. The discs are also thinner, not smooth.

Also, can anyone tell me how to turn off the brake pad waring light?

One more thing, anyone knows how to turn off the enging light?

Thank you in advance for your help!
