Cayenne Buyer's Guide - Does it Exist
I'm new to Rennlist. I have a 1974 914 that I have had for several years and I am now thinking of buying a Cayenne S as I have a new job that allows me to drive my own vehicle (got out of sales). I am thinking of 2003 - 2006 S. I really want to find an article(s) that discusses differences in years such as improvements, trouble items to watch for, etc. Porsche Excellence has good Buyer's Guides, but not for Cayenne. Anybody find anything out there? I have seen consumer reports, but I want a recent Buyer's Guide to help tell what issues to look for and not a new car test drive review. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to RL.
Lot's of sarcasm but also good advice in these.
https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...ing-guide.html
https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...ers-guide.html
Search for following keywords:
Coils
Coolant pipes
Cardan shaft
What you will find is that most people will post their problems rather than how well these cars perform so don;t get discouraged.
Some simple wisdom:
- Buy the newest car to can afford
- Buy the one that has the longest warranty remaining
- If you want to tow and you don't have the tow system installed, it's expensive to retrofit unless you go aftermarket
- If you want to tow a trailer with LED lights, you need a special adapter

alright, I'm kind of a hybrid. I've been a member on rennlist for many years, as I owned a 928S4 many years ago. I'm now a BMW owner, and an, um, upstanding member on a prominent BMW board.
So, I also find myself looking at Cayennes....in the first gen range. I came on here as this board was an outstanding help with my 928...however, I cannot search a buyers guide, what to look for, etc, for this particular porsche. I find a thread stared by Don Nguyen, whom I coincidentally know from the BMW world asking the same thing and getting a bunch of pithy responses. Then another that I'm posting in referring to the first which gives zero information of any kind other than "buy the newest you can afford", which is frankly just fantastic if I'm talking to a 12 year old. Now, is there, on this board, with all the knowledge that I've come to expect from the people here, a buying guide for first gen Cayenne's? Or, instead, am I going to get some BS re-directs back to no info?

I realize you want for me to just throw a few dozen links your way, but you know what? This Bro is kind of PMSing this very moment and will tell you to use the search function, ok?

so, what you're saying is, there isn't one? Thanks for the excellent help P-Car Bro!
Anyone on this forum that actually helps people?
Here, I'll change tacts.....EnigmaWnm, I've searched. You have an avatar....you use your search and find me a definitive buyer's guide for first gen Cayennes that gives any reasonable info. I'll wait. You find one, and post a link to it from this forum, I'll give you props. If not, well, you know. BTW, we're waiting for your link.

What I'm saying is that you're either Forest, Forest Gump and don't know how to use the search function (or how about reading the admin sticky threads for starters?!) or just lazy and don't care to do it.
