Definitely necessary to keep water out. I had to replace mine on my 06s. Depends how badly disintegrated they are, but water will eventually get in and make your headlights look like poo poo.

They don't actually seal the lights. They attach to the housings, and seal the gaps between the light housings and the fenders.

It stops a heck of a lot of water getting to places you would rather not have that

I am not going to deny the $38 for a piece of rubber is expensive but it was super easy to do. Also to seal it off from causing water to go to other places and causing a bigger headache was worth it to me.

This should never happen on a $60k vehicle in my opinion. But, the joys of owning expensive cars comes at cost. I guess I am a glutton for punishment having 4 Audis and now a Cayenne in the stable. LOL
Ordered mine for $44 each side from Sunset. We need a Chinese vendor to make a substitute for $2. It will probably last twice as long.

Just ordered both for mine, $44.80 ea. from Hennesy in Atlanta. I get faster shipping from them than from Oregon and I think one of Porsche's parts distribution facilities is in Atlanta too. Saves parts from going from Atlanta to Oregon and back to TN, at least for me.

I wonder if this is what's causing my flaky headlamp level warnings I've been getting? Both seals are definitely torn.

Looking at pictures of the gasket it appears to have some width to it, so that what's visible and disintegrates might just be the leading edge.

Has anybody replaced theirs and found upon removing the headlight that the back 3/4 of the gasket was still intact and doing it's job?

I'm hesitant to remove one of my headlights to have a look, and in the process break a seal that's still working. Part of me expects I would find the back 3/4 may be a little gooey, but still a perfectly good seal.

I hate to burn a $100 bill if I don't really need to... especially on a couple rubber gaskets.

So what have you guys found to be the condition of the back half of the gaskets when you've replaced them?

Mine are actually ripped where they meet the hood, started looking closer and saw where they were in poor shape in other areas of the headlamp lens too.

replaced mine. they were falling apart, literally. And although they do not seal the actual headlight, they do keep water away from the headlight seams. No more condensation in my headlight. I paid $48 at ECS tuning. Wish they were cheaper. Seems like something that will need to be replaced every few years.

Can you tell us where you got them for that price? Best price I've seen, so I'm sure others will want to know in case they need to order a set.

Is this a Porsche only part? As the prefitted rubbers seem to be bonded to the lamp fitting.

Any one already made the switch? And have a tutorial?

Thanks FP

This is definitely a Porsche only part. The gasket has little tabs and eyelets that fit into/onto the headlight assembly perfectly. So they are designed specifically for the appropriate assembly.

VERY simple to install. Peel off the old one that may be melted or fused to the assembly with dirt/debris. Start from the middle and work your way out to the edges. Simple.

how is that people are saying in this thread there's no more condensation in their headlights anymore after replacing those gaskets?
mine are getting condensate and would like to know if this (replacing the gaskets) is the real solution or spending $1,500 for another pair of genuine Porsche Cayenne Xenon headlights....
I just sent them to Dr. Headlights for restoration and now they are acting with condensation after every rainy day..
