Default 17" -> 18" wheels?

Hello everyone.

I am currently running an '05 Cayenne on 17" wheels.

A local independent service shop called me today saying they have a used set of 18" winter tires on rims for sale and wanted to know if I was interested (I had previously stopped in to this place to spec out new winter tires a few weeks ago).

The questions I have are:
1. Is it a problem to switch from 17" to 18"?
2. How does this affect the accuracy of the speedometer?

Thanks,

SparkyCanada

I am by no means an expert, but there are no problems. As long as the overall diameter is the same.

Basically when the wheel diameter increases in size, the sidewall should decrease in size. Go on tirerack or some other such website and see what size tire they recommend for a 18" wheel and see if it matches with your winter package.

You can go with a larger sidewall but then it will affect what you are asking. I know the navigation can be calibrated, not sure about the speedo.

I believe 255/55/18 will be the correct size.

Don't forget to have them install TPMS sensors

Thanks for the responses!

My current tire size is: 235/65R/17 - and the ones for sale are 255/55/18 - so it looks like they would work well.

Any idea as to what they would be worth? I haven't seen 'em - so I can't comment on condition or wear or treads. The winter tires are apparently Pirelli's of some sort.

Also - I currently don't have TPMS on my current rig - should I?

Thanks,

SparkyCanada
