Default Cayenne ordered late July- want 2 changes - PAG "order locked" - I'm perturbed

Ordered a 2011 Cayenne S back in late July and decided yesterday to make two changes to my order. I would like to:

delete: 18" Cayenne S III wheel (code C1Q)

add: 19" Turbo Cayenne Wheel (code C8K)
Deletion of Model Designation (0NA)

Here's the response my dealer got back today from Porsche Cars North America: "PAG has this one locked."

As the expected completion date isn't until the first week of November, I'm really surprised that these two seemingly minor changes can't be made. Although I can live without the changes, sure would be "customer friendly" of Porsche to accomodate a good customer. I'm on my second 911 and trying to add this Cayenne S to my garage.

Any ideas from my fellow Rennlisters would be greatly appreciated!

...and have their detail department remove the model designation.

That's probably a "non-starter". Any other ideas? Know anybody in Germany?

I suppose that is a bit more work than just wearing a paper bag on your head ... or you could ask their detail department to add "PORSCHE" lettering to the rear of the vehicle, like the new MY11 vehicles...

They just don't want to mess with it. My dealer told me that I had two weeks after I placed my order to make any changes, and after that, it is what it is. At least your changes can be easily done by the dealer. Let us know if you get anywhere...

Bob Moore won't help you. Call Larry Irby at Boardwalk Porsche in Plano...... 2174-576-1930..... He will work a deal with you on a swap. It may cost a few $$ but will be easy.

Thanks Scott, but my first choice is for the guys in Germany to be a little less intractable. The car isn't supposed to be completed until the first week of November. Rather than just a blanket "no", how about simply accomodating a good customer without making me prostitute myself for a stupid set of wheels? Makes me want to say to Porsche, "OK you win. I'm a big boy, I'll live with my order". I just hope PAG doesn't expect me not to look at BMW next time.

Your car is already in production.

The Cayenne body/paint/glass/upholstery/dash/wiring and more are surely being built as we speak at the Bratislava factory in Slovakia side-by-side with the Touareg. It then gets loaded onto a freight train and shipped to Leipzig for final assembly; earning it the "Made in Germany" status and VIN plate.

As others have already mentioned, your wish to swap the wheel option selection is negligible yet past the cut-off point of change, hence there's no reason why your dealer shouldn't accomodate you. However, the namebadge 'delete' option could perhaps be a problem in the future when trying to sell an unbadged Cayenne w/o the necessary code to back it up. Then again, the Cayenne is not a 911 so this really shouldn't matter.

BTW, PAG is pretty set in their ways and I doubt they'll blink an eye with a threat of crossing over the Bavarian fence. Your dealer however may; more reason to talk to your salesman.

Once the build process starts, their quality systems will not let them alter the order without starting over. This produces predictable results with the result being somewhat dissatisfied customers...... We have all become a slave to QA systems.

You could of course simply tell your dealer to please cancel your order.

Lewis, dealer didn't do anything wrong. It was me who placed the original order then tried to change it. All things considered, it's just a set of wheels. Over it.

I have ordered 2 911's with "Model Designation Delete" at no charge.
The only problem is they don't ship the pieces w/ the car.
Then I realized I could remove them w/ dental floss and a hair dryer.
I have a cool Carrera and a S from a 2005.

I have a December build on a Cayenne S - may remove them when it arrives.
The value is reduced by about $ 30.00 = cost of putting new badges on.

I wanted to add a fire extinguisher after the set date - dropped the idea when my dealer said it would change the build date.

Enjoy!
