996 Spin-on Filter Installed on my Cayenne
I'm posting about the 996 Spin-on Filter sold by LN Engineering or Flat6 Innovations.

I had this filter on my 996, and after a few DIY oils changes on the Cayenne I realized all the parts were the same, so I decided to try it. I also ordered the magnetic plugs too.
Installation was a breeze. After 10min of running the car there are no leaks, and everything looks great. Plus I get to slap a FilterMag on it as well (the red piece in the photo).
Future oil changes will be a breeze, cause I'll never have to deal with that messy Porsche filter again!

The adapter will alllow you to run Napa Gold, Mobil 1, or K&N oil filters. That means the only thing you ever need to buy from the dealer is a handful of crush washers (assuming you buy the magnetic drain plugs too).
And yes, you will never again be showered by a cupful of hot oil as you remove the filter.

Judging from the filter part numbers, it looks like only the V8s can use the spin on filter adapter. As I don't own any Cayenne's, I can't verify this myself.
All things considered, if the plastic filter canister and the insert are the same part number as what is used on the MY97-08 Boxster, 911, and Cayman models, the spin-on filter adapter will fit. Pet lists the filter & filter housing part # as 99610702055 w/ a filter insert of 99610722553. The key is you have to make sure your engine uses BOTH of these together. Then you know you have a match.
If someone can take a measurement of how deep the pickup snout is in relation to where the filter housing buts up to the filter console, I'll compare that depth to an M96 engine. I'd just feel more comfortable knowing the o-ring on our filter adapter is oriented properly on the i.d. of the filter adapter.
