I think I am going to take wirunners advice and wait a few months. I can get a 2008 with minimal miles now for low $40's and think when the market is flooded with them prices will come down more. I love these cars but having raced for a long time I don't think I need to put another mechanic's kids through college because of my passion. Maybe it's a sign of the times! But no Japanese cars/trucks! EVER!

until March 2011 or 100K miles. Owned since 51K miles with only the Cardan Shaft and the CPO covered everything. Great cars based on my experience. I owned a 2004 Cayenne S which was totaled with 60K miles and never an issue.

My 04 Cayenne S issues:
1. Cardin shaft (drive shaft) was made too small, 05 and up fixed it by making the threads longer. Bump and slipping feel.
2. Coolant pipe made of plastic and breaks. Porsche already made replacement aluminum pipes. I believe only 07 models have aluminum. Very important to know before you buy if the fix was done or you have an 07.
3. Alarm horn ($800 dealer quote from dealer)
4. Ignition coils all of mine cracked. Porsche has had over 3 part number updates. Plan on replacing them unless you have the latest part number ending in 07.
5. Air strut selfdestructed. Aluminum housing that protects the airbas cracked at the top of the flared end and ate into the rubber. ($1800 just for the airbag part). I do not recomment the air suspension at all. No new part number from porsche, which meas this can happen again to me or anyone.
Makes me think I should have got the bmw x5 or ML55 instead.
100k miles and I've spent more on the above repairs in the past 3 years than on my 944 convertible with 220k miles.

No one believed Larry, they ended up fitting him with the tight fitting pajamas with the arms that tie in the back...it is sad that he never lived long enough to know he was right.

"...makes me think...x5..." x5's are their own can of worms. i got an '03 4.5 yrs ago with 30k miles, this week, 4.5 yrs later and at 70k miles, a/c condensor coil under dash is leaking refrigerant into the passenger compartment and get this, 24 hours of labor and $4700 quote (dash and everything else has to be removed to get to the $100 coil) plus another 1700 for front axle boots (total of 7 grand of work on a car worth 15 grand, no thanks)... x5 is getting traded in on a PIG or a newer x5 as soon as i can find one. it is a shame cars are so disposible these days, i would have kept my x5 for 5 more years, strong engine, low miles, but its the stupid stuff that breaks and costs more to fix than the car is worth, just silly.

On another reliability note, I have located a 2008 with 18k miles for nearly the same money as the 2006's I was looking at. The catch: no navigation. It has some dinky stereo but has all the other options you could want and looks good. Is that a blessing or detraction? I don't have nav in any of my cars but it comes bundled with other stuff in the Cayenne so I don't know if I am giving up too much here.

08 Navigation is not worth it IMO. No touch screen, searching isn't easy, and quite a few other annoyances. My 2 year old Pioneer Avic D-3 in my old SUV was 10 times better than the 08 OEM Porsche Navigation.

Do those even exist?
I suppose it depends on how technical you want to get. I know there were no US production 2007s.
But IN 2007 Porsche was running the facelifted Cayenne in the Transsyberia ralley.
