Default need aftermarket stereo w/ nav & ipod on my 05 Cayenne S... risks?

So what are the risks of getting an aftermarket nav/ipod/stereo unit in my 05 Cayenne S? Will the PCM be affected (any processes go through the main head unit?)

I currently have the basic FM/AM/1-CD radio. It's depressing.

Also, can anyone recommend a knowledgeable installer in Los Angeles or Las Vegas? thanks!!

I just removed my PCM1 system on my 02 996TT and installed the Kenwood DNX-9960. No problems and the new system has EVERYTHING you could ever want.

@Canon1000 - just read your post. Great looking install! I'm interested in the same for my '04 Cayenne. Couple of questions for someone that has already done this - did you loose any functions (steering buttons, central informer dash messages, etc.), was the install DIY? If yes, how long did the install take?

It was not expensive to install. I did not do it myself, but it basically plugs into the amp. The bezel was custom made by them.

The info on the gauges still work fine. Not sure what you mean by dash.
I have no controls on the steering wheel, so nothing to lose there.

Although you can do it yourself, I would recommend a professional installer familiar with porsches.

from what I've read on these forums, the Cayenne has optical connections from head unit to the amp, and a Porsche unique communication bus. Correct?

Does the stock amp include *electrical* inputs that the new head unit can connect with, or is the amp also part of the replacement list for this upgrade?

Either way, the MOST bus carries audio to the Bose amp so makes connecting to the existing system costly
