Why do auto manufacturers get away with selling crappy nav systems? First of all, I'm loving my new Cayenne! But gee whiz, the nav system is unintuitive and crappy. I will say that it's about the same thing from most other vehicle manufacturers.
Why can't vehicle mfg's license software/OS from Garmin, Apple or Google? The nav on my $800 iPad is better than the $3200 Porsche nav.

I disagree...I think the NAV in my 2006 is excellent and easy to use...The NAV in the '11 is very similar but with more bells and whistles, including a birdseye view which is very cool.
My point of reference on the NAV is my wife's '10 Benz, which is just terrible...

FWIW, those folks who actually design this stuff for a living generally agree that the Japanese have been and still are the leaders in automotive NAV infotainment device design....the Germans (re: Becker) have never been able to get even close.
Similarly, and somewhat ironically, the Germans (re: VAG) have long been the acknowledged leaders in interior ergonomic design.
PCM3.0 is better than PCM2.x, but it's still a Becker design.

The Navi in the new Cayenne is perfectly functional and the graphics are top class.
Hell, even the Navi in my F250 is OK too (besides the fact that it chooses some strange routes, good for an adventure)!
Neither of them are bad enough to reduce me to driving "Jap Crap" and all the compromises that that entails, beginning with safety concerns!
