Well, approaching now 50k miles with a CS (06 Titanium edition), and this after 2 Jeep GC (HO, loaded, etc...) and before that, ..6 Range Rover in the row !
My comment: by far, very far, the Best SUV we never had.
OK, the tires last 20k on the Cayenne, when they do 60k on the GC, but, with the Cayenne, they are staying in the contact with the road.. (the Cayenne do not jump from one bump to another like a GC.)
For the brakes, the rotors of the Cayenne, you change them after 40 and so kmiles, because a small lip comes up. With a GC, you have to change them every 15 kmiles, ..because they are warped! (free arm massages after 10k miles)
But, the Cayenne has brakes, ..that stops the car. With the GC, the brakes only slow it down. (You will discover this very rapidly, ..if you have a passenger that did not click his belt, you may send him to clean the inside of the windshield on your first brakings..)
But: my "2" cents : 1: Air suspension is a MUST. (Period, no discussion on that one.) and 2: the Pano roof is a stupid roof. (I have one).
It is good when you are at a stop, eating in the car in a shadow place, but, after 20mph, it is very windy. At 65mph, you are like near a hurricane Cat. 5, just impossible to keep on.
(Beside that I have a 996 cab, and.. the roof is off 350 days per year, and, with the windscreen, I consider that ..there is just no wind at all. So, to compare, the Pano roof the P!g is just a mistake to my opinion.)

Thanks, guys- just considering black or red CS'ers, and have been tapping the brakes a little to buy some time before we hit 100k we decided (GC is paid off, ext. warranty goes 'till then- a great if boring excuse). It's looking like we won't pull the trigger on this ultimately until sometime next year. Can probably more easily swing a Pure Red Titanium like she "WANT"s. Not looking forward to the decreased value in the GC at that time we make the switch over what it is now ($10k today, $7k at swap time), but over that duration with loan pmts, it'll be a better value. I guess.

Hello Sentinelist,
After 6 Range Rover, I had two GCs, (also fuly loaded Ltd, i.e.: H.O., Nav, steering wheel made in "Rolls Royce wood", chromed flashy wheels, etc..), this before our 06 CS TiEd.
In summary: Simply the best car we ever had.
(Long time ago, before the Ranges, we had two BM series 7 (brand new), ..i.e.: the old e23, ..The great Paul Bracq design.)
Imo, the first "night and day" difference is braking: the CS has real brakes, ..not a pedal to slow down !
The longest (in miles) that I was able to do with a GC before having warped rotors (in the front) was 17k miles. With the CS, I changed the pads (for the first time) and rotors in the front at 43k miles (because of a usage lip, not because of warping), today, about 53, and still the original pads and rotors in the rear.
Ah, the tires...: With the GC, it was easy to keep them (all the 4) for 60k miles, but with the CS, they last about 20 to 25k miles. It is true that the GC do not seems to stay in close contact with the road all the time, it allways jumps from each little bumps to the next one, with seems to be very good for the tire usage..
(Note that with the 20" "Technos" on the CS, you cannot rotate, as the fronts are 20x9" while the rears are 20x10".)
I should also add: the Air Supension is in my opinion a Must !
If there is only one option that I could choose, I will pick this one. It change the car big time. It stay flat, what ever curve you drive (in a Range Rover, either you have a "good marine" blood, and you never be seasick, or, after about 20 curves, the rear passengers calls for emergency stop.). With the CS with Air, the feeling in curves is superb.
Strong recommendation: Do not buy one before test drive of the two cases, i.e.: without (first) and then with.
About the Pano roof (I have one), ..is is only good when you are standing still, i.e.: eating an "In n Out" and want to feel like seating outside.
When you drive with the (pano) roof open, after 25 Mph, it become windy, and, at the legal highway speeds, you feel that you have an Hurricane Cat 5 in the car.
(..And I'm a convertible guy, my 996 should probably totalize more than 98% of miles with the roof open, i.e.: wind close to zero with the windscreen.)
Summary, a CS 2006: 53k : 2 set of tires (Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta), 2 front rotors + front brake pads (piece of cake DYI) and 2 services, 20k and 40k.
This, for top of smile per mile.

Just picked up a 06 with 57K mint condition CPO up to 100K or 2yrs. Brand new tires and just had all the service done for 26K plus tax, title and fees. It has the moonroof, hitch and nav, not sure what else. It is the 6 cyc so kind of slow but it is for the wife and kids. Definitely would look for the S on the trade.
My first Porsche, came from Land Rover and owned a GC v8 before. So far I love it though. Shop on the last day of the month.

+1 (although I was able to pick-up my 06 CS w 26k miles, PASM, xenon, nav, tow, etc from PFS for $30k last Dec - they did not want it on their books at year end and my lease was up in Jan. The 09 buying opportunities were truly once in a lifetime.) dave
