I believe it is in the manual.

Remove the rubber tray from the bottom of the center console, there is a hex wrench in there, use that to remove a few bolts in under the cup holder.

if you want to pull the **** off - i think it is just a case of putting it in neutral and pulling up like hell. it is just a pressure fit build

I need to help a friend fix his cover plates, which I believe became dislodged from the tracks.

******CAUTION.....!!!! If you just pull up hard you will break the shifter assembly! You must take a small screw driver and pry out on the bottom of the shift lever button (and it comes out quit a ways. This will retract the mechanism on the shift **** out of the spring loaded plastic piece on top of the shifter rod and the **** will come off with very light force. Everyone has this step wrong on the internet but this is the correct procedure.

Notice how far out the button is out.

This is what happens following bad advice.

Notice the slot in this broken piece..... the mechanism on the shift **** engages this piece and when you squeeze the button on the **** it raises the spring loaded lock inside the shift handle tube and allows you to move the shifter into the desired position.
