Default Reliability Concerns?

Hi all

So I've had a '07 C4S for about a year and a half, and have come to the conclusion that it's a really impractical car for me at this point in my life with a couple little kids and no room to park a secondary car for myself. So am starting to consider trading it for a Cayenne, but in starting to research and read this forum, it seems they may not be the most reliable according to posts.

My 911 has been completely free of problems, and was hoping for the same reliablity in a Cayenne, but now not so sure. Have been looking at '06's, but should I be looking at newer? Had they fixed some of the issues I'm seeing listed (coolant pipes, coils, etc.) by '06? Or did they fix them in '08, etc.?

Thanks for any insight.

Not all "issues" were fixed by 06, but if you can get a good deal on one with a CPO warranty that will give you peace of mind. Maintenance records showing coolant pipes were fixed would also be a plus. And if you find an older one that you REALLY like but it's not CPO'd and there's no record of coolant pipes, coil packs and Cardan shaft being replaced, you can always lower your price offer accordingly. Use it as negotiating leverage and if they don't budge you can always walk away and look for another one.

Good advice - thanks! So are they still to this day using plastic pipes for the coolant?

I have an 04 and have never had any issues other than a water pump go.. My S has been the most reliable car I have had in my family and we have had a bunch!

FYI, some picks of how thick these plastic pipes are...

Those are amazing pictures.
With plastic walls that thick, there can be no possible way for those coolant pipes to ever crack.

I'd even go so far as to bet that the coils are made from the same plastic.

My 2004 CS has been quite reliable, overall. Sure, it has had a few problems, but nothing crazy. It's in the same league as our C4S - I don't worry about reliability with either vehicle.

Could be, though the coils looked much thinner.

But, BOY! was it easy to change coils.

they REALLY are pretty easy to change out... The dealer wanted close to $1500 part's and labor, but me and my buddy did coils and plugs for $215 and a 12 pack of Shiner-Bach. Not bad at all.

well i've had three porsches, this being the third and they have all been reliable cars. they all have their quirks too. no one enjoys having issues with a car and people who have had trouble are more apt to complain than those of us who have not, are to praise imo, but my experience has been a good one.
