Default Can someone please explain the air suspensin to me?

I know you can lower the car to 3 different levels, low, normal, and high. But does this suspension cause the car to run more smooth or anymore stiff in any way? I am guessing it only makes the ride more comfortable, and has no performance effects except for lowering the center of gravity?

There are actually 5 levels, but these have little effect on the smoothness of the ride. There are also the suspension stiffness settings of Comfort, Normal and Sport. These do affect the smoothness of the ride.

when i chose the lowest setting, it automatically goes to normal when i start driving. what's the purpose of the air suspension? it wont stay anywhere but normal on MY05 S.

You need to see your mechanic. That's not proper operation for the "low" setting. If you're trying to drive the car in the "loading" setting, then you need to review the owner's manual.

The lowest setting if for loading and cannot be driven like that, it raises to normal when you move. Use LOW and it will stay there.

The suspension is better under ALL conditions although many will argue its better for cornering, off road , snow handling everything

I dont understand why the loading level will not stay at that level when under way!

You can disable that with a gismo I saw on 6speed, but I was told that if you are to run at load level the alignment needs to be adjusted or you will wear your tires out. i.e. you run at that level and cannot run at any other level without tire wear issues

I think the same thing is true for the highest level too - you can only drive very slowly and whe you speed up it drops down to normal again.

The Cayenne has a lot of self protection stuff built in to keep it within its designed operating envelope, things like PSM never actually being really off when you turn it off.

You can drive in the loading level if you attach the air hose to the compressor. First lower the car, then attach the air hose, then drive. You will get an error message. It's a fun way to see how the car would look and handle if lowered.

What happens when you press the Sport button? On mine, it goes into the Sport Engine & Transmission management program, stiffens up the suspension and drops the ride height one notch down from normal. All this with the press of the Sport button; and that lowered ride height stays there at any speed.

The MY05 has a sport setting on the firmness side, but not a sport button like the MY08+ Cayennes. If driven in loading setting, it defaults up at 3mph I believe. If on the low setting, it should stay there. If it doesn't, it has an issue, and you should get it checked out.
