Question What to do with the battery when I go away for 3 weeks?

I will be going away on vacation for 3 weeks. How can I keep the battery from dying? Should I take it out and live it inside the house? Will it damage any components if I remove the battery?
thanks!

For a Cayenne, I would not waste the time to remove it out of the car. It is tough to get to. You should buy a trickle charger. Porsche has one the works through the cigarette lighter. I use one that connected in the engine compartment.

BTW, you do realize where the battery is in the P!g...not exactly a simple removal...

I was away recently for 30 days and when I came home the Cayenne started right up. No trickle charger or battery tender plugged into the car.

will these trickle chargers harm the battery if i leave it plugged in for 3 weeks? i thinking of buying some outlet times to go along with the trickle chargers.

No most all of them automatically shut down when the battery is fully charged. I have kept my 996 on it for about 3 months during the winter here in NY. 3 weeks is probably OK to not use a trickle charger, but they are really cheap to get and easy to use.

Don't use a trickle charger, only use a battery maintainer, like the Porsche one you can purchase from places like Sunset for about $55.

Battery Tender Plus for me, although I've gone longer than 3 weeks w/out putting any charger on it.

Or maybe you are one of those lucky few with two batteries!

For me, I need TWO dead ones before I can't start the car.

As an aside, the design requirement for the quiescent (dark) current consumption of the P!g was to allow a Cayenne to sit for 30 days and still be able to start upon return (there was some debate about temperature over the 30 days and the state/age of the battery).

The initial P!gs had the 'dual battery' option to protect against dark current issues with the 30 day test, given the new nature of the infotainment and electrical system.

Where do I check if I have a second battery?

I know your first guess would be under the passenger seat (why not, the primary battery is under the driver's seat, so it would be a logical assumption)...

But in fact its in the floor of the rear cargo compartment, under the access cover (where you find a subwoofer or a 2nd battery) and rumor has it sometimes a compact spare tire.

No, don't ask where or how much for a full sized spare tire, you're not quite ready for that story yet.

I have 4 full sized spare tires in my crawl space, won't do me much good unless I get the flat in the driveway though.

I opened the rear cargo compartment and found the compact spare. Man, this is a weird looking spare tire. I read about the full spare story and I was shocked about that too.

Well it looks like the battery maintainer is my best option.
