other than power and less cylinders what are reliable differences between the 3.6 and the 4.5 engines? does porsche make these suvs better with age or are the 04 the same as the 05 and the same as the 06 they seem like good buys

Like any all-new vehicle, they got better with age as the bugs were worked out. They had a facelift and update in 2008.

Do some searching on this site and you'll find out what to look for.

The 3.6 is an Audi engine with a Porsche intake.
The 4.5 is a Porsche Zuffenhausen engine.

The unibodies are the same, the electrics are the same, the suspensions are the same, Aisin transmissions, etc...

The Cayenne is 85% / 65% VAG content and labor, so it's more Audi than Porsche, although now that VAG owns PAG, what's the difference.

I know I am nitpicking but the VR6 was actually developed by VW, not Audi

I thought the 08+ used the 3.6 VR6 and the 04-06's used the Audi 3.2. Both are typically regarded as a good engine though.

But to ltc's point, VAG, Audi same thing!
