Default Help! Fuel Door won't open!

Ok so I went to the gas station to fill up on gas and I couldn't open the fuel door. I made sure the doors were unlocked and when I go to push the left side of the door in, it doesn't pop open and just stays locked. The gas light just went on and there is just enough gas to make it to the dealer tomorrow. Anyone have this problem before?

No problem, pull the trim panel off in the right rear cargo area and reach your hand around near the fuel door. There is a pull mechanism that will release the fuel door. Mine has experienced the same problem once and it was easy to release. Hope you make it to station.

Simple question..... Did you have the key turned to the "on" position to provide power to the switch?

Always start with the simple things

Thanks for the info guys it seems that the release mechanism that locks the gas door is broken. It doesn't open when I unlock the doors. I'll take it out tonight and see if there anything I can do to fix it. If it really is dead does anyone know a good place online to buy a replacement? I'll try the dealer but most likely their price is going to be ridiculous.

You may want to check your fuses on the passenger side dash fuse compartment. There is a fuse that can blow which will lead to this.

I'll check this out too. Any clue as to what fuse # it is or what it is labeled as?

Default bump old thread

Gentlemen, here's the problem. My switch has power between ground and purple green. At the motor actuator nothing. Fuse good. Even with a new unit it will not operate. I don't want to install until I'm sure what to look for with all new parts. I will purchase a new switch but is there any way to bypass it to make sure it's the switch? I don't have a wiring diagram so any help would be great. Here are some pictures to show what I'm doing and how easy it was to get it out from inside the rear cargo space. Just two screws and pull it back and it comes out in your hand. I've tried with the key on, with the lights on, everything I could think of to get it to work. Lights on is how I know what wires went where. Is there a relay somewhee? TIA

Swap the two connectors over. Plug the fuel door plug into the hatch release switch and vice versa to test if the switch is faulty. Had the same problem and have ordered a new switch.

Tried that as well. Can't really tell if that switch is working. It does not release the rear lid. Only allows it to be opened from handle. I did open the switch and found some corrosion, cleaned it. I'll order a switch today. Thanks

That's pretty strange. I have not tried to lock the car first. Sounds like your having some of the same issues but yours opens in a default mode. My switch does nothing and the motor does not move with any combination of trying. Still at it and going to order new switch to see if that works.

Well, the fuel door did not open for me this morning. Luckily had enough gas to make it home so I can find a solution.

THE EMERGENCY FUEL DOOR RELEASE STRAP is located behind the removable panel, inside of the right "passenger side" storage space in your cargo area.
I found this photo online, just added the arrow for the next guy, it might be nice to be familiar.
