Default Any New Winter Tire Options

It's getting close to that time of swapping winter tires. My last set was the Pirelli scorpion Snow and Ice but they didn't seem to have the best traction.

Any new tires out this year.

Jim, I liked my S&I's but am curious to see what your question turns up.

I'm actually curious too - my Cayenne's tires are pretty well shot. I'm probably going to go with another set of all-season tires on it.

I'm kind of leaning towards Pirelli Scorpions...

I have the P. Scorpions All-Season on mine. I did not put them on, they were put on by the NJ dealer before I bought it. I have no problems with them but have minimal experience with snow here. Wear seems to be good, I've put 14K mi. on them and I'm nowhere close to needing new tires, I think I'll be able to get 20 - 25K easily, maybe even more.

I do not need Winter tires, but the Vredestein Wintrac Extremes are very popular in Land Rover/Range Rover applications. V speed rated and can be run year round.

I had the P. Scorpions SI's for a couple of seasons and I didn't feel they griped for ****. I don't know if it was the slush that we have in Chicago or if they were too worn towards the end of the season.

I may try the Michelin Latitude Alpine HP or the Blizzaks 4x4. looks to be pretty slim pickings and maybe the Scorpions may be the only decent option. I think real snow tires are 17's.

the Michelin's looks to be OE tires.

In the new Excellence mag. Sunset has wheel & tire sets for $1,000 & $1200. These appear to be new OE wheels and Dunlop winter tires. The ad is on pg. 44 of the magazine. Yes, it's sets of 4 wheels & 4 tires.

I saw that ad on their webpage. That's an excellent deal. They come with the OEM Dunlop M3 M/S tires and will install the OEM TPM for $350.00 if you buy a set (reg. price is around $430.00). I bought my OEM 18" Cayenne Turbo wheel set with Dunlop M2 M/S tires when I bought my 2004 CS on sale then for arount $2,500.00 w/o TPM.

I later bought (and would buy another set) of Pirelli Scorpions S/I tires at the Tire Rack. I liked them more than the Dunlops.

Being new to the Cayenne, I'm not sure how these will do, but I ran these on both my Evo IX and X and the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's are simply superb and they have them in 275/45/19.

I'll be giving these a shot this winter

I'm sure that any true winter tire will do fine - especially compared to an all-season tire.

Our Cayenne actually did pretty well in the snow with all-seasons, so I'm sure it would have been excellent with dedicated snow tires.

I have the Pirelli Scorpions on my 2004 Cayenne S and got three winters out of them, maybe 25, 000 miles. They are great tires. I mounted them on my 18" wheels and got 20" wheels for summer tires. The Scorpions were a huge improvement compared with the original Conti all season tires. Here in Chicago we can get serious snow anytime from November through April. I like the way the Scorpions handle ice and dry weather too.
