Mooty:

large truck guy also and not a likely candidate for your choice SUV but I have like the model but somewhat skiddish about reliability, any issues. I will be looking for a DD and dog hauler, my rig GUS is just a bit big to drive and my other options are not client friendly.

Sorry to ask but I am a reformed brishish SUV owner. Thanks in advance.

if you are asking about pepper reliability. well i only had it two months so i can't say. but the car is very nice to drive on daily basis. great PCM unit, decent stereo and handles very nicely for such a big car. if i wasn't towing, i would have kept it.

oh, so you were there during my test drive then. i drove a 3500 dually long bed. i came within 1/2" of taking out the dealer's bldg with the rear fenders. i took that as a sign that i am not suitable for dually's.

i got that part. but what i did't realize is the you only have to turn the str wheel very very little and then just back up and wait for the trailer to turn. i cranked the wheel all the way and it was quite funny in the storage lot. it's actually a friend's lot and 1/2 of which are occupied by semi and other big rigs. several drivers came over to see if i needed help. i was going in circles.

Find an empty parking lot and just practice with an empty trailer.
Remember, seat time also applies to towing

Any bets on mooty's next tow rig. My bet it will be a Ford F350 or F250.

How many points are you going to give me to take that bet?

I can understand the problem with the dually fenders. I rode motorcycles for years, most of the time I rode w/out the saddlebags attached. However, one time I went to a BMW rally in Rhinebeck, NY and I had the saddlebags with my camping gear attached to the back. In order to get from the check in area to the camping area you had to ride between these 2 poles cemented into the ground. I turned too early after the poles, hit 1 with the (hard) saddlebag which immediately knocked the bike (and me) over on the ground!

A couple of folks were sitting on the side and helped me right myself. They said that they had seen so many people do exactly the same thing that that was why they were sitting there, for the entertainment value and to help riders back up!

I am a Ford guy, but if I weren't, I would definitely go with the Duramax/Allison combination.

I always though that the Allison combination was nothing more then a stamp on the transmission case and the same 'ol GM internals.

don't know about that but I will say it is the best towing tranny I have ever driven/towed with. I especially love the downshift/engine braking feature when in tow mode.
