According to mObridge's web site they have an update for both models, Bluetooth and non-Bluetooth.
It's vers. 3.2.0 released 6/09 and vers. 1.8.0 also 6/09.
Haven't downloaded or installed myself yet so no review.

Has anyone tried using their "Update Wizard"? How does it connect/update to a non-bluetooth unit?
Their link to a supposid "User Guide for the Update Wizard" only goes to the main mObridge User Guide and that only mentions the Wizard, no instructions at all on it's use. I don't install s/w, esp. wizards if I don't know what they do.

^^ Wuss! ![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
Bill, the update routine relies upon a Bluetooth connection between your PC and the unit, where the Bluetooth linkage emulates a serial port. Once connected, the software on your PC (the ubiquitous "wizard" - I *hate* Microsoft for coining this term) will transfer the new firmware image to the unit and invoke an installation routine to install the new firmware to the unit. I'll go play with it this week and see if I "brick" the unit.
Currently running 1.71 of the Parrot firmware, so I wonder what was included? Maybe they added the Bluetooth profiles that allow one to use voice-activated dialing???

Toby, when I was looking through the site for the Wizard instructions I thought they said the Wizard was for both the Audio and BT units. How could you update the Audio units if it only works over BT?
I sent an email to their support group asking about this, wonder how long it will take them to respond?

Bill,
Page 19 of the Audio Unit user's manual explains how the Wizard works for non-Bluetooth units. Essentially, the wizard will produce the correct files on an SD card that you then plug into the control unit to perform an update.

I saw that Toby, but all it has is a 1 sentence statement about the wizard creating the SD card, not much of a "user guide" in my opinion.
If the "user guide" is only going to consist of that single sentence why wouldn't they put it on the Update Wizard main page?

Conmpletely agree. mObridge is your classic small technology start-up. Great ideas, reasonable execution around the base concept, good extension of function, CRAP documentation and worse support. I've seen it time and again in my job.

I've worked in IT since I got out of the Navy in '83. My first "PC" had 2 (5 1/4) floppies and no HD, don't remember how much memory it had. Basically I've seen it in companies small and large. Undocumented "features" and utilities are nothing new, doesn't mean I'm not going to bitch about them.
Regarding this "Wizard", if all it's going to do is copy a file to a SD card why can't I just copy the file directly to a card? Why do I need a wizard to do that? That's why I'm asking, what else does the wizard do?

I got a response from my email sent to support:
Maybe this should be incorporated into the Update Wizard's main page?
Hello Bill:
There's really no reason to use the update Wizard unless you're vehicle has
a strange configuration that needs a particular update or in the case of new
iPods in the future, but currently there isn't anything in the iPod world
driving a need for an update or any reason to do this on Porsche.
For the iPod unit, the Wizard actually uses a special developer's cable that
many of our installers have. But no real reason otherwise to use it.
Otherwise if updates are really needed they can also be put on an SD memory
card which gets inserted into the slot on the side of the unit in which case
it then auto-updates itself.
Hope this helps.
