Default Independent in Chicago area?

Hey gang, anyone have any recommendations, particularly in the western suburbs?

I am just looking at a brake job here.

Come over to my house. I am planning on doing the brakes on my CS too. I'm in the west burbs too.

Or you can go to Euroquipe in St. Charles. I have been there a few times.

Thanks Jim. I am in Wheaton. Where are you?

I think the brake party sounds good but I called Helmut and Vito's in Downers Grove and they told me that they could do the job in just a couple of hours. That sounded like a deal to me so I booked it for next week. I already have the parts in hand so I should get off easy here. I'll let you know how that turns out and how these guys seem to operate.

I live in West Chicago. Pretty close to you. I have driven past the Helmut shop but never been there.

Brakes are easy, you spend more time jacking up the car then swapping the pads. I will be doing rotors too.

I have a lift and plenty of tools and do most work on my cars.

PM sent.

I sent a PM as well.

Yes I used to live in Downers and I always drove by that place. They would have old VWs and 914s stacked like cord wood in the parking lot!

Never heard of them. I also can't find anything like that in Chicago via Google. Where are they located downtown?

A follow-up. Helmut and Vito's did fine. Since I brought my own parts, they tried to make up the margin a little with the sensors, which I had NOT supplied, but that's no biggie. Total price for front rotors and F/R pads was about $375 minus parts but including disposal and brake fluid, etc.

Of course I would have *expected* Helmut to work on the car(!), but actually it was Vito that I dealt with and he has quite the personality.

HD2pct:

What parts / sensors do you need - I need to do my breaks / rotors in the near future. Did you order them at Sunset Motors or Pelican? How long did it take Vito to do this job?

Thanks in advance!

Frank -

I bought my parts from Suncoast Motors - the guys in Florida. They are pretty good. I have bought a lot from them. Expect about 600 bucks for pads all around, sensors, and front rotors. Then there is the labor from the Vitos of the world. Maybe $375 and a half a day.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but looking for a shop that really knows these early Cayenne's. Any recommendations? I'm off 90 and Randall.

TIA
