Very hot CD player '08 S
A friend has an '08 S and the CD player overheats. Here's what he told me yesterday "The cd player got so hot it executed thermal shut down. Porsche solution is to to to builders warehouse and get piece of insulation and put between unit and fire wall. It still gets hot as the dickens, but has not executed shut down again."
I told him I'd ask here if anyone has seen this and has a solution. I told him I've never used mine, I've got an IPod.

Since the CDC is in the rear cargo compartment, I am assuming your friend is discussing the in dash CDR/PCM single disc CD player in the headunit?

The CDR/PCM temperature should not (appreciably) increase when the CD mech is running, at least not based on design.
When he says 'hot as the dickens'...what part of the CDR/PCM is he touching?
Is the same temp with and without the CD playing a disc?
It sounds like an internal fan (or two) is not functioning....best guess from the cheap seats anyways.
Long term this unit will likely develop optical fiber/fiber optic transceiver problems/reliability, since they can not tolerate elevated temperatures for extended periods (it tends to fog the optics in the FOT due to outgassing).
Obvious solution is for the dealer to simply install a new CDR/PCM and see what happens.
