Default Coils Question

Has anyone had their coils replaced twice...

Mine were done at something like 40K+ miles. Now I have 80K and I'm feeling a slight shutter right after start up (which eventually subsides).

Seems like same symptom when coils were bad initially.

Anyone else have theirs replaced twice?

IIRC, yes, there were instances of this, especially early on with the 'redesigned' coil packs.
IMHO, the new ones are not that much better.

Be sure to check the plugs when you're replacing the coil packs.

I spoke to the dealer. I think they are going to cover the cost of replacing them since the first set (installed under warranty) went bad. I think it helps my case that I'm proposing to do this as part of an 80K service (which is pricey). There are offers galore out there these days for discounts on major services.

Done twice. Both times before symptoms got very bad. Last time was about 6 months ago. Don't remember the version numbers right now, but remember looking them up at the time and the (second) failed set was only one revision old, so they weren't that old and had little mileage.

I'm still on my original coils at 51,000 miles. Are plugs and coils changed as part of the 60,000 mile maintenance? If not, I may have mine done anyway.

Plugs are changed as part of 60K mile maintenance on an 04 CS. Coil packs aren't part of the recommended service, but I'd recommend you replace them and save the labor cost of having to pull them later when they do fail. Of course, yours may still fail before the 60K mark. Mine went bad at about 56K as I recall, so I went ahead and had the 60K service done at that point to save the cost of removing them twice.

dealer looked at my coils and said they are not cracked. No explanation for rough idle upon start-up (on cold days). No cel or codes thrown.

Done twice while under warranty. No drama.

I think most dealer are waiting for the misfire codes to diagnose/change coils. you may want to put some fuel system cleaner through to rule out fuel etc.
