Default 05 CTT Rough Acceleration/Stuttering

Can somebody guide me in the right direction. Accelerating has been somewhat rough only when the turbo hits around 0,4 bar. It has never been extremely smooth however I figured that was a characteristic of turbos. Today while driving on the highway, my check oil level warning came on. After that the CTT was driving great however during acceleration (about 0,4 bar) the car stuttered quite heavily. This seemed to occur at the same times when I noticed rough acceleration in the past however this was quite drastic- it felt similar to a engine that was misfiring (I am not saying that the engine was misfiring, simply felt that way). I did not get any warning lights other than the check oil warning. When I got home, I put 2 qts of oil and the CTT still stuttered however it did seem somewhat improved.

I am not overly concerned about the check oil warning. After reading many posts, I realized that I should have been more diligent checking my oil (haven't checked in about 1.5 months and it was somewhat low then).

Does the original rough hard acceleration sound normal (feels like a rocket is strapped to my back)? I also have a 996 non-turbo. When I put the pedal to the medal, it is extremely fast however the acceleration is very smooth. I have never been in another CTT. Any ideas on the stuttering? Is it possible that it was simply related to the low oil levels? I have heard that Cayennes often do very strange things.

Strange things? Cayennes? Say it ain't so!

Could this be a coil issue as previously discussed here? I haven't experienced this issue in my Cayenne S, so I'm not sure if this is it or not. My guess is that new coils and plugs would help you out.

Keep checking that oil too - I know some turbo owners buy it by the case.

Bad/Fouled/Clogged cats
Bad Turbo(s)

And about a dozen or so other possibilities, but let's start here (since both above are related to high oil consumption....sorry, 'normal and within spec' oil consumption.

Interesting there is no CEL, so I will rule out OBDII emissions related causes for now.
Would be interesting to get a PIWIS readout and see what the ECU thinks of all this.

Cracked coils/fouled plugs....perhaps, but I wouldn't expect those to be exhibiting at a very specific boost (not RPM) range as described.

Personally, I think it's time for the last rights...I'll start digging the hole now.

Sounds like coils to me. I just did mine for the second time.

I am going to check the coils tomorrow. I have suspected that it is a turbo related problem. It feels like the stuttering comes more from the passenger side.

How can I check to see if this is a turbo problem? How can I gain access to the turbos so I can take a look. Which side has the low end turbo and which has the higher end turbo? If the higher end is on the right side, then that may be my problem.

FYI- I am naked. I have always purchased cpo cars or extended warranties however I never used them, Of coarse, I would have problems now.

Is the comment about last rights for the issue, me or my car?

I've Got 50k.

I just inspected all of my coils. ALL coils were cracked. I did replace them however that was not the problem. I took it to my local indy and it appears that it is the drive shaft.

Check with Suncoast Motorsport in Florida. They sell the OEM drive shaft $695 or something.

What is really annoying about the driveshaft is that it was just replaced by the previous owner about 5 months ago. I was told that there is a 2 year warranty on the part.

I cannot stand allowing anybody else to work on my cars. I have done pretty much everything on a car but I have never changed a driveshaft. Is it difficult? Is it a DIY job?

So, the previous owner replaced the cardan shaft with one of .... let me guess.... the same revision as the one that came out....or the updated design?

Hmmn, which one would be cheaper........I wonder.

I've done driveshafts on BMW's but have no idea about the cardan shaft on the Pepper. I would be interested to know what type of job this is (DIY or not).

Bit of useless info, I have a new driveshaft (inc the rubber doughnut/bearing) for a '97 BMW 840Ci sitting in my garage I need to get rid of. If anyone knows someone who needs one.....

The symptoms dont seem to match the diagnosis. Drive shaft causes vibration not stuttering

When I changed the coils a few days ago, I did not inspect the spark plugs. I changed the plug today and now the problem is resolved.

I really cannot understand the dealer. They are supposed to be a top notch dealer- ferrari, porsche bentley, rolls, masaratti... what a load of crap!!!

They cannot even figure out that the car needs new plugs. The driveshaft is just fine.

I have learned my lesson. I will never go back to a stealer again. If it needs to be done right, do it yourself!!!

Always replace plugs when replacing coils.
Coils crack, misfire, plugs foul.

Now you still seem to have an oil consumption "issue", which if in the engine, may lead to early fouling of the plugs again.
