Default Cayenne S 2009

I need a wagon. Thought about ordering a BMW wagon but noticed the deep discounts on the Cayenne and since I am a Porsche guy anyway... what do you think? 20MPG highway? My 997 gets 26 Hwy, guess its a bit lighter. Going to drive one in a hour. Trading a 2007 Mini S. Wife will be pissed

My wife loves her MCS- even though she got a 335i convertible last summer, she won't let me sell the Mini. You'd better keep the Mini!!

The Audi S4 was at the top of the list. They are coming out with a V6 supercharged version, new body and it sells in the mid-high $60's. So I though hell I can buy a Cayenne S for that and have a broader use vehicle. I drove one yesterday and it lumbers like a big SUV. Guess thats because its a big SUV. Its been 18 months since I sold my Dodge Cummins dually. Driving a Mini and 997 all that time then jumping in a Cayenne is a shock to the system.
If I were going back to a diesel car the BMW 3 series sounds like a great power plant.

2 things:

1. IIRC, BMW and Mercedes are supposedly bringing their 'good' diesels over here in 2010-2012 (number varies depending on who you talk to....here or Germany). VW is also considering bringing their GAS hybrid Golf over here 2011-2012 (they believe the gas hybrid is cheaper to make emissions compliant than a diesel hybrid). IMHO, these are worth waiting for. I am sure you have seen the Cayenne Hybrid.....just not at your local dealer.

2. The Cayenne does not lumber. It is the ULTIMATE FORCE IN THE SUV UNIVERSE. It is quick, nimble, attractive, desireable, defies depreciation....in a word: PERFECT.
A Cayenne Turbo S can track down and run over a 993 Supercup car on the track....of course it will have cooked its brakes in doing so, won't be able to stop and WILL in fact run over the 993 Supercup....but I digress.

If you continue down your current thinking and commentary, you have NO IDEA how many Cayenne owners in this forum will end up with their boxers in a bunch......basically all the tight asses will be flossing their butt cracks with their briefs (with a very few exceptions.....and of course EnigmaWmn).

Itc, I did mention that my low first impression was most likely based on my recent small car history.

I would love to take that test Cayenne turbo S against a 993 cup. Short technical tracks like summit/beaver run/CMP and I would think the 993 would be seconds quicker per lap. Long straights like Sebring may be another story.

2nd drive in the Cayenne today.

They should give you the Cayenne for the Mini - when I was looking for trades two months ago a dealer told me "Your Mini is like gold." We kept ours.

Before I came up with the Cayenne idea I went to a BMW/Mini dealer and they offered me 19K ACV for my 2007 Mini S coupe, 6 spd, nav, full leather, contrasting piping, stereo upgrade, sat radio, cold weather, 16K miles, red/ black leather, prem... freekin thing has all the options except works motor. The Audi dealer offered 22K. Porsche dealer was $21,000.. The BMW/Mini dealer said he has a 3 month supply of used Minis in stock (Baltimore).

I picked up the Cayenne today.

Given all the pros and cons available, here and elsewhere, I'd say Bill made a pretty informed decision.

Congrats on a great vehicle. Note: I didn't say perfect!!!!!

I think you will like your truck. Question whether you will get the 20 MPG. I have enjoyed my turbo truck and on the road gets about 19 and sometimes 20 MPG when I am driving about 60MPH. Larry offers very informed insight on ownership.

The 2008's are in advertised in the WSJ for 13% off +/-. The 2009 that I have listed at 71.6 discounted to 66K. We have 7 Porsche dealers within 40 miles and no one has any color other than silver/white/black. I found one red and one green but they were not S models.

Congratulations on your purchase you will enjoy your SUV choice... one strange discussion I still see around here is how our dear members get into mpg details... 19 20 21 etc... someone buying a 60k+ SUV has already made the finer choice in life please enjoy your Cayenne.
(for the record I also love my 996 TT... just trying to keep the squirrels back)
