That character, or cast of, must have had a lot of fun back in the day.
Now my question is do I need a '04 specific amp or will a '08 or other year work?

Same POS amp (you can't improve on perfection), just different software.

Technically, you should have the latest S/W to match that in the headunit (bus master). Your dealer can easily verify/update the S/W via PIWIS in about 10 minutes.....at one time you could also do a CDROM update via the headunit, but I think PIWIS is the preferred method now.....hey, CD's cost money to make.
It's not going to blow up or anything......I think.

Of course, you may encounter the easter egg planted by some unknown malcontent that forces the volume to 11 (on a scale of 1 to 10) and fixes it at that level permanently. Naaaaahhhhh, that's not possible is it Frau Weideking?

I mentioned this to my tech when at the dealership this morning for another reason and his response was basically 'yup'.
Or in other words, who knows?
Sorry, I guess this is no help, but at least you know you are not alone.....

It will take PAG YEARS to fully rid Larry's ghost from the PAG infotainment designs.

I got this error about a week ago. I think I may have tried to turn on the PCM too quickly while turning on the ignition and things (technical term) got out of sequence (another technical term). First I tried turning the ignition off and on but I kept getting the same error message. Then I turned off the PCM, turned off the ignition, pulled out the key, reinserted the key, turned the ignition back on, turned the PCM back on and the error message has not reappeared since.

The MOST infotainment components are all directly connected to battery, so their could (pretty much) care less about the key and/or ignition.
The MOST ring, if it wakes up in a bad mood....sort of like Larry, will have to time out before you can reinitialize.
(ever notice why the light ring around the 'volume' **** stays on for a while?)
So, much like a scab.....don't pick at it. Just leave it alone. Walk away. Wait a while. Let the system time out and try it again. It will work.....sort of

Hi,
Can I be so bold as to tell you how to solve the problem...even though it may or may not work, and people here will laugh at me? I've had this happen twice, and fixed it both times...

First, with the PCM off, and your foot off the brake pedal, turn the key to the right and hold it for 90 seconds. Then take the key out, put it back in and start the car. if that doesn't work, try it with the PCM on.
Failing that, open up the fuse box on the left drivers side and get out your fuse diagram (which isn't easy because most of them don't match up well to the diagram.
Pull the fuses for the PCM, CD Changer, Instrument Cluster, and Amplifier. I believe it will be two fuses, but maybe three. Check to make sure the fuses are all in great shape. If you have any spares, put them in place of those, even if they look ok, and then just keep the old one's as spares. Let the car sit for a couple of minutes, and then put the fuses back in. and start her up. My guess, is that you'll be all set.
I know it sounds like black magic, but I've done it successfully more than once, and it costs nothing to try.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Regards
Steve
