Horn issues...again
I've searched the topics and read the threads. I realize that many of my Cayenne brothers have had problems with their horns. Most probs seem to be solved with a new horn, replaced by the dealer. Not this kid. Mine went from strong (normal) to lame (high tone dead) to mute. Dealer didn't have any horns in stock and recommended (off the record, of course) that I pick up some after-market horns and just put an end to the ongoing Cayenne horn saga.
Following his worldy advice, I went shopping; picked up some a Hella Superhorn set. The Rennlist threads indicated that the install/wiring was simple, as did the little hip-hop dude who sold 'em to me. If memory serves, he said it was 'a cake walk, 20 minutes max'. I'm not convinced that he's ever R&R'd a horn on a Cayenne, but he talked the talk. The package included the 2 horn units and one relay switch. (At least that's what I believe it to be...stop laughing).
I dug through the wheel liners, located and removed the horns. So now I'm looking at the existing wiring (in the form of a plug) and the horns that have absolutely zero wiring. Basically, the horn units look like a coaxial car speaker; 2 small copper 'connectors' (work with me here).
Before I go cutting off plugs and stripping wires, I'd love to get some direction here. Has anyone been down this road?
I remain,
Clueless

well not you I think
As far as I know this si the first time a horn has gone bad twice. In the eraly days when larry walked the earth there was a period where lots of horns went bad including mine. I would not get to worried.

My horn sounds like a I'm driving a "Girlie Car" as my Govenator would say in his Austrian accent.
Please post any pics / info if you do fix your horn. I'm considering a "get out of my F'ng way" air horn of sorts. I use my horn often and it's driving me crazy ... or to drink. Wait a minute - that's not the reason! It's because of ...

I've removed both horns now. Both had watery, rusty 'gunk' in 'em. If yours sounds lame (or girlie), you've probably lost one of them; likely the high tone (driver's side) horn. You can replace it for $35 from carpartswholesale.com. Or, you can pick up some more power, like the Hella SuperTones, on eBay for $70, give or take. Good luck.
