Default Anyone try 87 octane in the V8?

93 and 89 octane fuel is in real short supply here in WNC. I had to drive to 7 stations the other night to find one that had 93. Many stations are completely out of fuel.

Searching for fuel is nothing but a minor nuisance compared to the immense loss experienced by families from Gustav and Ike.

Anyone try 87 octane in the Pepper S? Does it cause unreasonable knocking or can the engine handle it?

Per the manual, proper engine function requires a minimum of 90 octane rating (R+M)/2.

It will adjust to it, I have run 87 before. Remember the engine is designed for use all over the world, good gas is not always available.

You can also pour in a bottle of octane boost (like 104+, etc) available at just about any autoparts store or Wally World...

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

ltc, I thought about the octane boost. I was close to taking the 'screw this' approach, dumping 87 in the tank, and then adding boost if the engine didn't like my drinkie!

I drove the Pig to work and heard there was gas at Sam's Club. So, I went and battled it out with about 30+ other cars LOL.

We're in much the same situation here in the Nashville area. In fact the big bold headlines in this mornings paper read "Out Of Gas". I've been lucky since we've got 4 cars and I filled them all up just before the storm and my wife has been out of town, so I don't have to worry about keeping one car filled. I've seen some long lines at stations though.

As for running 87, I wouldn't worry about it, but if you do get a chance to top it back off with 93 I would do it. I just wouldn't make it a habit of using 87 for the long term. JMHO
