Factory fill is Mobil 1 0W-40.
However, there are dozens of alternative oils on the Porsche Approved Oil List in several viscosities.

Mater of fact I just changed the oil in the Pepper last night, Elf Excellium 5w40. On Porsche's recommended list, Worldwide designation and more importantly for me at least meets the requirements of the 993 air cooled guru's (see VERY long oil thread in 993 forum).

It also comes in 5L jugs (which is what I buy) from Performance Oil Store and their max shipping charge is $20. I run it in all 4 cars, saves on oil storage issues and is recommended by all mfgrs.

Butt dyno says I gain 5 - 7 hp w/ it too! Just Kidding!!!!

Edit: Just checked the site, looks like the Elf has been re-branded "Total Quartz Energy 9000 5w40 5-Liter" and unfortunately it's on back order right now (and the price went up). Oh well. I'll place my next order, they should have it in before I need to change the 993 (it takes 10 - 11 qts.).

M1 0W-40 ...... was told that is the factory fill

I changed it at around 10K for the first time because 20K sounded like a lot. It was so clean I took the next one out a little further -- Still unbelievably clean.

PAG has since changed the oil change frequency from 20K to 15K...I wonder why?

Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula is the only oil that the GTS sees. The 928 still uses the old mineral stuff, Castrol XLR 20W-50

I may have low mileage on mine, but when it did eat my oil up the first 800-1000 miles, I have used and will be using Mobil ESP formula M 5w-40, because I was told by the book that 0w-40 is used for low temps. So here in GA, I do not want that, and the other one it recommended was 5w-40, and all I saw was ESP formula M, or either Diesel turbo. So I went with ESP formula, and as for 10w-40, it told me that was used for the "S" model.
