We had an interesting show at the PCA NNJR autocross this past Sunday at the Meadowlands. Our region's event sponsor, Princeton Porsche, brought out a new Cayenne GTS to run the course a couple of times to show its capabilities. It was on its regular street tires, and is owned by their general manager.
We recruited a "ringer" that is a friend and regular competitor: G.J. Dixon. G.J. is a former SCCA National Champ, and also also won the Corvette in last year's Rev-It-Up National Competition. He had no prior seat time in a Cayenne.
To put this in perspective, the fastest time of day was a 46.23, set by a fully-prepped XP 914-6 3.0,on fresh Goodyear 250 compound slicks. Two GT3s on Hoosier A6s turned 48.6 and 48.8 respectively. Average times for the event were well into the 50's.
G.J. comes out in his first run and sticks a 51.7...cold tires, and absolutely no seat time in any Cayenne in his life. On the second run, he gets a great start, but missed a shift and had to settle for a 52. Keep in mind..this is on stock street truck tires!
Needless to say, we were pretty shocked at the results. Some quick math calculating -2 secs for Hoosiers vs. street tires, and little more for added seat time means that G.J. could have hung with a couple of well-driven GT3s in a 5,000 lb truck. Beyond that, all I can say is that the sound of this thing was unreal...a cross between American muscle and Ferrari 430.

Was the GTS equipped with a manual gearbox or a slushbox?
I was really impressed with the GTS with the manual. The suspension is very capable, and the manual box just makes it so mcuh better!

Yep, it was a 6 speed box. I wish I had a video of that run. Course workers were calling in to T&S asking them to announce the Cayenne's time!

The GTS comes on hi performance summer street tires, they are nearly a foot wide (295's). Amazing handling in spite of the weight.
