Default Little hairline cracklines in headlights? Normal?

I gave the new truck a coat of wax this weekend (Zymol), including the headlights, and I almost immediately noticed as I was wiping the wax off these little hairline cracks. I'm not sure if they were there all along and I just didn't notiice? Zymol is carnuba-based, and has no abrasives or anything. really weird,...anyone experience this? (These are the projectors, by the way)

That is a clear coat issue with the OEM housing. That should covered by warranty and one should insist on such.

On a seperate note; I was a plant manager of a OEM exterior lighting facility for the Big 3 and know that issue would be covered as it clearly indicates a failure of the part/product. Clearly the pics show a degredation of the clear coat as the lexan/acylic lens is not damaged or you would have a moisture leak that would appear as moisture inside the lens. The amount of heat HL's generate is significant and leaks are the most common issue but the pictures clearly indicate a cosmetic blemish. This should be addressed by the dealer even if the car just past warranty. Talk to the regional rep and get multiple second opinons including sending the suspect part back to the OEM supplier. Threaten involving the "state's attorney" if necessary and write letters to anyone you can think of for assistance.

BTW - the wax could not have caused it but I would not offer that info to the dealer and don't give them any reason to say "you did it"

Unless their service writers read Rennlist and see the documentation

Drew, I have to exact same problem with my 2006 Cayenne Turbo S. I noticed when i was checking my headlights at night. I have hairline cracks or spider-webs on the interior of the lens. No moisture on the inside. I have an appointment with the dealer this week.

Did the dealer take care of your issue??

Tnx-u, Coach

Waiting to see what happens... it's clearly a manufacturers part defect issue. There is nothing anyone can do to create that damage/defect.

Hi Coach,

I'm pretty sure it will be a non-issue with my dealer (Princeton Porsche in NJ). They are great guys, and clearly it's a defect. I'll post once its taken care of. It's interesting to hear of another '06 with the same problem...perhaps a defective batch?

Yep, my 1 y.o. son received it for Christmas from a close friend. He loves that thing.

If you've got kids I highly recommend one. It has an electronic sound of a diesel.

Or someone *cough cough* like me who works for a Porsche dealership....

LOL-

In all seriousness the service writer WANTS to write it up- it's $$ man!!

Our service writers want to write up as much work as possible!! It IS under warranty! So WHY NOT?

Right? Right!
