Default Cayenne GTS for towing?

Anybody know if the new Cayenne GTS will be able to tow anything (like a GT3 to the track)? The bodywork in the back doesn't look too promising, but I'm hopeful.

Can't remember from the pix if it has center exhaust outlets like the Jeep SRT or not, but if not don't see why you couldn't have a hitch... IMHO it would be easier to tow with the tip rather than the manual, but a manual V8 could be interesting. (Would never buy that kind of vehicle with a stick though...)

On the configuration page (the Netherlands one is in English) I think the different towing packages (visible or hidden hitch) are an option.

The only issue may be the manual vs tiptronic...many people find it easier to tow with an automatic, but having a 6-speed is part of the appeal of the GTS.

Don't some people actually prefer a manual for towing so they can control the power delivery better? At its worst, a manual is nothing more than a nuisance for towing is it? No mechanical problem or damage?

It depends on the driver. If you already know how to tow with a standard it is not an issue. Some just find, starting from a standstill, towing uphill forward or reverse is easier with an automatic.

It used to be that standard transmissions were stronger and better for towing, but now automatic transmissions are pretty good, so it is a wash in terms of reliability. It comes down to driver preference.

Best for towing is something with solid low end torque, that is why if you tow a lot a diesel is much better. I have never towed with my Cayenne TT, but I had a supercharged GMC 1/2 ton (450-500 HP) and it was terrible for towing. Now I have a GMC 3/4 ton with the Banks system (450-500+ hp and 800-900+ ft-pd of torque)...much better.

I am somewhat curious as to the expected clutch longevity with a 5500#
"vehicle" towing 7000# on a fairly regular (DE/Club Racing basis).......

I have towed a lot with my manual cayenne s. 3,5 years and 45K miles, clutch is still fine. Starting from standstill upphill is very easy with manual transmission and a heavy trailer because of the hill hold brakeassist on the cayenne.

Of course, you lucky folks in Europe have had the option of a manual V8 for a long time- you guys get so many great cars we can't get! I'd love a TDI A8- you'd think Audi would bring it here after their success with the racecars...
