Anyone go from a 996 to a Cayenne S?
I sold my 03 Targa this morning (sad day). I'm trying to decide what to replace my MB E500 with when the lease expires in May. It's either going be a 5series wagon or a Cayenne S, I think.
Thoughts and advice appreciated.

I actually just got rid of my 997 and traded it in on a Titanium S. I had a 996 before that, and an '84 targa a number of years ago. I hate to admit it, but I am very pleased with the Cayenne. My kids don't complain about climbing in and out of the small back seats, my wife doesn't give me a hard time about how ridiculous and impractical a 911 is, and the monthly checks I write are less. I am no longer paranoid about where I park, and for some reason, it seems okay to let a Cayenne get a little dirtier. I must be getting old.......

I go through the truck in 4-cornered catch fashion between the C2 cab, GT3, and the RS6.
Biggest downside to the CS is that its my wife's with the result that I spend 2 to 4 minutes policing up the debris field she leaves behind before I can drive off.
After that I find the thing is really heavy but isn't too distant a 4th choice to drive once I'm above residential speeds.
The 2nd biggest downside is that the RS6 is almost as practical a hauler as the 'truck' and if the battery goiter in the trunk went missing it'd be a toss-up.

...if money is not an issue and you understand cars, not just OWN them in your garage (car enthusiast...), then take CayenneS. If prefer something more mainstream and LESS costly at dealer service, then take BMW5wagon...
...CayenneS does MUCH more, than just carry stuff in the back...it has MUCH more potent engine (...at speed above 80mi/h... ) , but weaker transmission implementation, than 5series...
...and in the wagon you'll ALWAYS feel the tail on the lane changes...

Larry's widow said 'no' to a Porsche......I'll just say I didn't get the memo.

Last year I sold my 05 997 and bought an 05 CS. No regrets. I made the decision after driving both on the track at the PDE and relizing how much fun I could have and still be practical. Besides with the money i saved, I bought a 92 968 cab and still get to enjoy the car experience for less total cost.
