Someone save me the burden of reading the manual when I get it delivered tomorrow and tell me how to break this puppy in. Floor it, right?

There are 2 schools of thought on motor break-in.
One is by the book/manual.....<4200rpm for the first 1K miles, yadayada......

The other is high RPM's right away, so as long as you allow engine braking as well (a bit more difficult in a Tip, but you can shut off PSM and use Manual Tiptronic mode)....the idea being to help seat the rings in right away.

It depends on what you believe the internal build tolerances are for these V8's.

FWIW, if you've ever been to Zuffenhausen/Stuttgart, as soon as the engine is assembled, it's filled with fluids and rolled into a dyno cell.....and run into the rev limiter and max output to verify performance.

It may be a pig, but it still has a Porsche engine, albeit the wrong number of cylinders and wrong configuration.....but then again if you put a flat 6 boxer in a Cayenne you'd have a Subaru.

I should, out of what little conscience I have left, mention the fact that your Cayenne ECU will record all of your Type 1 overrevs (to be read out later by Porsche vis PIWIS), so pedal to the medal, staying off the rev limiter, is strongly recommended.
BTW, it also keeps track of how many times you go WOT as well.

The guys in the back of the Porsche dealership. That's what they're hired for anyway.

I've always heard the best break-in is how you're going to drive it.. i.e. if it is for racing.. run it hard.. if for daily driver then do like the manual says.. although with today's technology and the fact that Porsche engines are run hard after assembly like ltc said --- does it really matter???

hmmm, maybe that will get the ornery guys fired up!?!? almost a Larry from the grave statement.

FWIW, I bought a set of extra floor mats in stone gray (I have Stone/Black two tone) because the black mats always looks dirty with grass, dust, gravel etc. (I'm a golfer, too). Sunset was the cheapest ... just a thought to get and extra set of tan mats.. it actually looks good sets off the seats' two tone look more... plus you then have a black "new" set if you ever trade and/or decide you prefer the other look.. ENJOY... your subtle colored Tit.S!

Packman,

Congrats on the new ride. I noticed you changed you avatar to HK. I am another HK fan, the alias I use here on Rennlist is the same one I use at the HKPRO boards.

Thanks! So you must know if a MP5A5 will fit nicely in my trunk?

LOL yes it will.

Just don't forget to pull the cargo area cover so no one will get tempted to break the glass.

Just got it this morning. All I can say is Porsche 1, Chevy 0 I am suprised how well it handles. I would say its on par with my BMW 530i. Its hard to keep the rpms under 4200
