Default "Check Reversing Lights"

Yep. that is what it says when I start the car in the morning and back out of the garage. The trouble is, they are fine. Maybe Porsche is just issuing a general advisory and will soon be asking me to check other parts of the car just for the heck of it or for basic preventive maintenance.

Anyone ever heard of this one before?

Thanks Brad - I guess I will wait until it actually blows so I can ID it. I assume it isn't too hard to just replace myself.

I would bet it's not the bulb, but the socket/contacts instead.
Just a guess....

Thanks L, yeah you're right - the bulb may not blow and really I guess I just need to get in there and see if something needs to be cleaned. Weird that the contacts would get dirty or corroded though.

I am not sure about the moisture susceptible statement either. I pulled BOTH of my assemblies out to check my contacts and in each case, the interior of the assembly looked brand new, and the assembly seemed quite well-sealed. Something would have to be misaligned or damaged to let moisture in, IMO.

I did manage to further damage those dubious little white plastic ball sockets on each side, which apparently don't take to repeated use, so I have that going for me. I'll have to pick up a couple of new ones sometime soon.

I think Lewis was referring to the metallurgy.

I had a similar issue with the license plate lamps. Some cleaning of the contacts and all was well.
I had to do this regularly on my 993.
