Airbag/Steering Wheel Removal
Just bought a new leather/wood steering wheel and wanted to install it myself. Can anyone offer any advice/directions on doing so??? I have replaced steering wheels in a Boxster and 911 but can't figure this one out. Any help is much appreciated!!

you need a 4 mm ball headed allen wrench
turn the steerin wheel 90 degress
inser the wenceh in the hole from the back/bottom
push up towards the cluster and you should feel the bag un hook
turn the wheel 180 degress and repeat the procedure
the first 15 times you do this you will have to do each side a few times
to ge tthe hang of it
un plug the air bag with the key off

Brad,
I would assume you would want the battery disconnected as well or is the key somehow sufficient?
having an airbag explode in your face would not be fun. When I replaced the wheel on my 968 I waited a good half hour after disconnecting the battery just in case.....

you should un hook the battery but, if do the steering wheel will lock and you canmt turn it 180
I actually have gotten in the habit of un cliping the bag with the car running (power steering makes turning the wheel easy) and then un hook ing the battery before i unplug the bag

look on the 996 thread - the airbag/battery disconnect just doesn't seem to add up. i did mine and no problem.
tons of them do it live there and there are no deaths to report.
