Here’s some history on BHR, Inc., located in Kansas City, MO, with several pictures to follow:
“BHR, Inc. was founded by Bob Hindson in May 1971 as an alternative to dealer repair and service. Bob is a factory trained Porsche technician and previously a factory team race driver for Datsun and Porsche. Bob was fundamental in the development of the "famous six" 914-6's that were campaigned in 1970 and 1971 in the SCCA. Bob was chosen with the likes of Peter Gregg, Elliot Forbes Robinson, Richie Ginther and Alan Johnson to campaign the 914's for Porsche. Bob's most famous and notable achievement was back-to-back victories at the Daytona 24 hour in 1976 and 1977. Along with this, Bob also won 13 Divisional Championships in the SCCA. With Bob's racing success's BHR's reputation for quality repair work was cemented.
Since the very beginning BHR has trained and employed some of the most successful Porsche technicians in the country. Many have started their own businesses or have gone on to have successful careers with Porsche and other automobile manufactures. BHR is extremely proud of all its present and past employees.
In 1988 BHR, Inc. became the first Bosch Authorized Service Center in the Midwest. BHR's employees are trained by Bosch to properly service their products and systems that are installed in many vehicles. To this day BHR continues to have their employees trained by Bosch to maintain up to date service techniques and information.
In 1998 Bob Hindson retired to Scottsdale Arizona and sold BHR to Aaron Holstrom. Aaron was mentored and trained by Bob Hindson and Kevin Hinckle (another Master Porsche tech) after he graduated high school and began working at BHR. Aaron brought his love of racing and Volkswagens along with him to BHR. Since that time Aaron has become the premier Porsche technician in the mid-west, with more experience in diagnosis and repair on Porsche vehicles than any other modern, active Porsche technician.
The turn of the century ushered in a change of performance tuning and vehicle repair for BHR, the introduction of Audi and Volkswagen to our repertoire. In 2003 a partnership with VW and Audi tuner APR was formed. In 2005 a partnership with the world’s first GIAC software dealer and long time Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche tuner, A.W.E. Tuning, was begun.
Since that time, BHR has become the mid-west’s pre-dominant tuner for Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen. Currently BHR has completed two Stage III 2.7 turbo Audis, both well over 500 crankshaft horsepower. BHR is also an Electromotive dealer and tunes many EFI systems as well as PMO and Weber carburetors. BHR also builds and installs custom EFI and induction systems for Porsche and Volkswagen.
Since 1971 one of BHR's specialties has been suspension evaluation, design, fabrication and set-up. BHR uses an optical aligner from Bosch and corner weighing scales from Longacre to facilitate corner weighting and alignments. A computer program from Bill Mitchell is employed to design and evaluate suspensions.
Along with the tuning and repair facilities BHR also houses a machine and fabrication shop. Precision machine work, roll cage fabrication, bodywork and paintwork are all available on premises. BHR builds racecars from the ground up and also restores racing cars. BHR has built many 911's along with restoring and maintaining 911 and 993 RSR's, 964 Cup cars, 935's, 962's and Mazda RX7's.”
